The Lindbergh Kidnapping was such an unbelievable incident, that different states united together in order to mobilize their police units and their citizens to find the culprit. There were many ransom notes and a couple of encounters with the culprit himself, but at the end, justice prevailed. The parents of the baby were worried sick and due to the results of the kidnapping they were only more than happy when the culprit was caught, tried, and then executed.
Charles Augustus Lindbergh Jr., which was 20 months old, was kidnapped on March 1, 1932 at around 9:00 pm by a man who had used the ladder near the window to enter and escape with little to no noise. The woman in charge, Betty Gow, finally noticed about one hour later that the baby was missing and told the parents as soon as they got home. They began a search and as they were looking around, they found a ransom note, which told them that in order for them to have their baby returned to them they had to pay $50,000. Charles and Anne, the baby’s parents, contacted the police and asked for help with the investigation of this horrible crime. The Hopewell police were on the scene in a matter of minutes and had a thorough search of the whole nursery and found that one of the steps on the ladder was broken, there was a footprint in the mud which was unidentified due to the lack of clarity, and that there was some metal remains from the tools that the culprit had to use to break in.
Throughout the investigation there were many ransom notes that would tell them what to do in order for the baby to remain alive. The kidnapping was one of the most gruesome events in the 1930’s and proves that everyone who does evil will soon be judged.

From the first search of the nursery “a ransom note demanding $50,000 was found on the nursery window sill” (“Lindbergh Kidnapping”). This ransom letter was found to have handwriting similar to that of a German. After the case went cold for three days a second ransom note showed up, this time the price was raised to $70000 (“Lindbergh baby kidnapped”). The Lindbergh’s decided that after the second ransom note, saying that their kid was still alive, they decided it was time to pay the ransom money to save their child. Scott Peterson was an educated man from California Polytechnic State University where he graduated with a B.A. in Agricultural Business. He was married to his wife Laci Peterson who was also pregnant with their unborn son. In December of 2002 Laci Peterson went missing in the Modesto, California area where she shared a home with Scott. Once the investigation of Scott’s missing wife started authorities began to suspect Scott as a suspect in her disappearance. In April of 2003 a fetus and a female torso that was missing hands, feet, and a head were found on the shoreline of San Francisco Bay. The San Francisco Bay area was where Scott was boating the day of Laci’s disappearance. The body was later identified as Laci Peterson and the fetus as Laci and Scott’s unborn son. Scott was also arrested in the month of April shortly after the discovery of Laci and their son’s body and was later sentenced to the death penalty. Over the course of this paper I will cover the whole event of the disappearance of Laci Peterson, relating it to a sociological theory, the impact the event had on our society and how the media had influence over this national event.
A man who thought he was going to get away with it all got what he deserved. It may have taken a long time for justice to be served, but when that day came the people felt joy and happiness. Though many wish he got worse he was officially gone and no more harm could be done.
