The Life Styles Inventory has definitely given me different perspective on various areas about myself. As well as providing me additional self-development tools, it has also added some confirmations regarding my behavior while at home and at work. I undeniably agree that this information can produce changes as it relates to my reactions, relationships, and thoughts.
Personal Thinking Styles
The Life Styles Inventory (LSI) indicated that my primary style that had the greatest influence on my behavior was the Humanistic-Encouraging style, and my backup was Conventional style. According to my circumplex, I scored my highest in the Constructive Styles which follow my perception of “building healthy relationships and being very proficient in accomplishing tasks” ("The 12 Life Styles", 2014, p. 1). I find that the above mentioned are all in-grown to my behavior at work and home. At home, I am not only the encourager, but the nurturer for my children. I work full time; however, many times I am called for many different motherly duties. While, I do set standards for the children; I have always set standards for myself as well, in hopes that they can surpass my limits. I completed my Bachelors as a full time working mom and wife, and hopefully they realized the struggles that I endured so they may take a different route that I took. I am very supportive of my family, however, I always make mention that “to every decision we make, a positive or negative consequence is a result, and that we must live with those consequences”. I usually try to look at both sides, so I may make any decision knowing all the facts in the case. At work, I do look at things a little differently. My staff are not children, however, sometimes I f...

...g and examining my LSI Inventory results has been coaching. I am really going to use this as a self-development took which ultimately will increase productivity within my department. I hope to increase my leadership capabilities by continuing to develop healthy relationships and ensuring my staff work effectively with each other. I have found that my circumplex has similarities to a successful chairman of a board or CIO. I hope to prove the effectiveness within our department, as well as the problem-solving. I hope that my MGMT591 course will address the proper impact I will have on the organizational culture. This exercise is valued with a genuine impact. I love the fact that I was able to measure my pattern of thoughts.

...ly available to hear staff needs and concerns. I think this is truly an outstanding thing to do and I wish that more administrators/ leaders would apply this practice. In relating the interview to the text I found remarkable similarities. The talk of change, empowerment, organization decision making, autonomy, Magnet, authority, over all leadership practice, and its importance were all covered during the interview process. Although intimidated by this project at first I found it very insightful and valuable. It was interesting to obtain a perspective of these various topics from an upper level administrator within the institution. Furthermore this exercise has made me think more about my personal leadership style. It has allowed me to identify my strengths and weakness in which I must focus on to become a more effective and desirable leader with in the organization.
Since I am a huge of assessments, the research was personal assessment heavy with all of the educational and professional assessments I have participated in over the last few years. It is very important for me to see where I fall as an employee, person and leader and make connections to current theories, which then in turn become practice for me in my career. The following assessments provided insight into my current and future leadership styles:
As stated above, the LPI offered a unique opportunity to examine how I recognized myself as a supervisor and mentor. As a leader this survey glanced into how I saw myself; modeling the way, inspiring a shared vision, challenging the process, enabling others to act, and encouraging the heart. Equally important, it gave my supervisors, peers, and subordinates the same opportunity to give feedback from their perspective. A phrase often heard is, “You are your toughest critic”. This LPI survey validated that statement by showing me the differences in the scores of the aforementioned categories. Results from my survey revealed I
Some of the greatest milestones in life are graduating from college and getting a first job. However, no matter how challenging those activities are, many people believe the hardest job in life is being a parent and bringing up children. While child rearing is difficult, many also believe it is the most wonderful thing in their life also. Child rearing also has us question ourselves: "Am I raising them correctly?" "Should it be this stressful?" "Should I raise my child like my parents raised me?" "Should I ignore parenting advice I receive?" Diana Baumrind, a clinical and development psychologist, researched parenting styles. Her research can help answer many of these questions as well as define authoritative, authoritarian, permissive, and uninvolved parenting, and the pros and cons of each style.
In this document I will share how I was influenced to believe in my own ability. I will also share how my view about management and leadership was changed in one conversation and how that conversation boosted my confidence. I will also share the manager that influenced my learning the most and how through not just words but also actions he showed me that being a leader is not being the person sitting in an office barking instructions, but being the leader is someone who keeps motivating his team to want to accomplish more and be more through actions. I will also share my learning through this assignment, and recommendations on fixing

The Challenge of Change section in the LSI will enable me to document a self-improvement plan utilizing my LSI profile. With this, my change suggestions and self-improvement plan will give me a guided direction to properly focus my personal development goals on the way I need to go.
Taking the Life Styles Inventory (LSI) survey has really made me realized and confirm many things or styles that I've already knew about myself. On the Life Styles Inventory survey, I scored very high on the "Perfectionist", "Conventional", "Power" and "Competitive" styles of life. I strongly agree with this. I've always went about things with those things in mind. I can honestly say that for every decision I made will take those "styles" into consideration. At work as well as in my social life I have a strong tendency to be all of those things. I look at it as a way to survive. I believe in Darwin's concept of survival of the fitness idea. In order for me to live up to that belief, I need to be strong in a society that requires an individual to have those aspects in life. If you are weak, not driven, makes mistakes and do not conform to the rules of the game, then I do not believe that you can succeed in whatever your goals are. You will be in competition with those that will willingly take advantage of you. Losing will hurt and some say you learn by losing, I like to learn by winning.
I think these assessments have been helpful in clarifying my leadership style. I am confident in how I look at challenges and researching solutions. I seek several solutions and points of view. I look for a win-win outcome whenever possible. I can hard line something when I have to, but I prefer to create the most positive outcome.
Upon receiving this project, I immediately began to worry about a survey that would seek to determine how strong of a leader I would be. I cowered at the fact of coming up with either false information or information I felt was less than perfect. I think that this fear alone, confirms my primary style. My primary style is that of Self-Actualization. Self-Actualized individuals seek to always become all that we can with the talents and knowledge we have. We tend to be creative and like to live in the moment. We bring almost a refreshing perspective to most situations and have a continuous intrinsic drive for self-development. I see this style manifested in myself on a daily basis by my strong desire to always meet new challenges. My motivation for success and coming up with new ideas is completely internal, and when the outlook seems grim to others, I am always the one that sees a positive outcome ahead, through the use of a plan. Although, I am currently a stay at home mom, I would imagine that as a manager that worked outside the home, I would share the same values as I do at home. I am a planner and a “lister”, because I feel that in order to tackle a task, the plan of attack must be clearly laid out and readily available to refer to. My backup thinking style is the Achievement style. I think this is very obvious because I seek to find jobs or take on challenges that will allow me to feel a sense of achievement. I have been known to quit jobs that paid a decent amount, but weren’t allowing me to achieve anything. On several jobs before, I’ve ended each day with a feeling of unimportance or frustration because I felt like the majority of my day had been spent working a job that wasn’t fulfilling or impacting the world. I think the fact that I decided to leave the corporate working world to be a stay at home mom, attests to the fact that I want to feel a sense of achievement in the personal raising of my child. I want to set up a standard for my child to ultimately be able to be a self-actualized person as he grows older.
the personal leadership development plan is to capture the self-awareness of an individual. People in general have a difficult time trying to figure out who they are and how they view themselves plus how others may see them. This plan touched on my personal strengths, areas of improvement, and also made me more aware of those areas I can improve. The Personal Profile System, Team Dimensions Profile, Full Range Leadership Development (FRLD), Kirton’s Adaption-Innovation, Critical Thinking, and Four Domains of Wellness concepts were all used to provide a better understanding of how I function.
...res any less difficult to ponder because they reveal that I have a long way to go – indeed further that I would have estimated. They also reveal that Bobby believes in my potential and my chances for success as an effective leader. I know I can do it, but it was very reassuring to hear it from another person who I respect very much. It also confirms the value of my decision to enroll in the Organizational Leadership degree program at CSU. The classes and exercises such as this will certainly be an integral part of my long-term success as an effective leader.
Many individuals and organizations, uses these tools to evaluate leadership abilities. It is almost similar to a SWOT analysis, which measures strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and treats. I find the LCSI extremely effective because it assesses leadership competencies in five major areas: personal, analytical, communication, organizational and positional competencies. Then, it further operationalizes the five important skills into core qualities that exceptional leaders own. After completing my scorecard, I was able to do my SWOT analysis. It assisted me to identify my strong and weak areas. In this pape...
Many times we can get so busy and wrapped up in our jobs that we may lose sight of how we are actually performing as a leader. Self-Assessment exercises offered in the reading material offer a valid look into strengths as well as opportunities for improvement. The first assessment that began to make me think about my leadership role deals directly with social motives in the work setting.
Communication is a necessary skill for success in life. Misunderstandings in communication occur frequently between people due to language and perceptual differences. In intimate relationships, this misunderstanding in communication between the man and the woman leads to great agitation and tension -- seemingly the two sexes speak in completely different vernaculars. The Genderlect Style Theory explains that men and women talk in distinct cultural dialects and mannerisms, which reflect the different genders’ objectives; men desire status and achievement, while women desire personal connections and relationships. In the following pages, I will identify the theorist behind the Genderlect Style Theory, examine her educational history, and discuss other contributions she has made in the world of social sciences and psychology. Using physical examples, I will demonstrate the Genderlect Style Theory in the real world to steel our understanding. Lastly, I will explain what I have personally gleaned from my research.
