Introduction
The purpose of this paper is to describe business practice in detail and provide a comparison of South Korea with that of the United States in regard to business practices. The researcher will define ethical and legal business practice as well as unethical and illegal business practices. Furthermore, the researcher will identify business practices that are considered illegal and unethical in the United States and address why these same practices are considered legal and ethical in South Korea. Finally, the researcher will provide a course of actions to deal with the difference in ethical and legal practices when transacting business with a country that has different standards.
Describe Business Practice
According to Chang, C., Chang, A., and Freese (2001) gifts and bribes are distinctly separate and while gifts are ethical, bribes are considered unethical and illegal. In some cultures particularly South Korea business practice such as the concepts of gifts and bribes are not distinctly separate. The problem is that gift giving can overlap into bribery which is both ethical and unethical at the same time (Chang, C., Chang, A., & Freese, 2001).
Chang, C., Chang, A., and Freese (2001) states gift giving in South Korea is defined as behavior based on social norms for congratulation, gratitude, condolence, attention, and reciprocity. Gift giving is one of the most important practices in South Korea and a person business may be in jeopardy if the individual fails to send a gift. The importance of the Supreme Court case Korematsu v. United States can be understood by examining the history of the case, the arguments and decisions made in the court, and the lasting impact it had in the United States. As Supreme Court Justice, Antonin Scalia said, “Inter arma enim silent leges… In times of war, the laws fall silent.” The decision of Korematsu v. United States was made due to the hardships of war that will forever be a reminder of the injustice fear creates.

Japan has lived five main stages until 1990’s, in which the definition of business ethics has changed radically. We will be stating the five main periods and describing how Japanese companies dealt with their social and legal responsibilities:
South Korea scores a 100 being one of the most pragmatic societies which is the exact opposite of Morocco who scores a 14, being very normative (Hofstede, n.d.). South Korea is less concerned about quarterly profit than they are with steady growth of the market for generations to come. They live their lives guided by virtue and good examples to lead their decisions that impact a long span of time. That is the exact opposite of Moroccan culture where the absolute truth is the most important and tradition is highly valued. The main focus is on achieving quick results that impact now. In Morocco it is a multicultural society made up of many different parts that have deeply rooted traditions, values, and beliefs that make it hard to do business with (Gray, 2002). An example of how this dimensional difference could impact these two countries is by understanding a ritualistic greeting done by the Moroccans. When greetings take place between family and acquaintances Moroccans have an extensive way to say their hellos and no business venture could slow or stop this ritual. It would be important for a Korean businessman who is on the opposite end of the spectrum to have patience during this time in order to show respect for the tradition that Moroccans
