Melancholia
Melancholia is a feeling of sadness and depression and what better way can you capture that, than with the world ending. Von Trier did a wonderful job depicting his way the world would end. In this film the way the world would wind up ending is the planet Melancholia would end up hitting earth. John the husband of Claire is always reassuring her that Melancholia will never hit the earth. Most of the time you begin to watch movies to take your mind off of worldly things but this brings you so far into the real world it begins to make the viewer feel depressed. The feeling of depression is so great in this movie that it brings a big sense of discomfort. If I were a director then this would be something that I would strive for, to make the audience uncomfortable. The film is somewhat confusing but in the end it kind of made sense to me but not all the way.
This film to start off with has beautiful cinematography. I really enjoy the opening scene of the movie where the scenes are laid out and in super slow motion. The cinematography in these opening scenes is what caused me to keep watching the film as long as I did. I sometimes did not understand the reason for this during the movie, but most of the scenes that appeared in the beginning of the film appeared sporadically throughout the film. The soundtrack in the beginning of the movie really depressed you during the opening slow motion scenes. Throughout the whole movie, anytime there was a downfall or a moment to worry that song would come on and play. Eventually that song lost its power to me because it was so frequent that it was used. ...anings that this movie has. It was a great film for the artsy film watcher, and not the everyday audience that would go see a movie in the theater. The style in this movie is based solely off of one character and it goes entirely through the film. The way this film came across to me might not come across the same way to anyone else. This to me was a love hate film. I thoroughly enjoyed many parts to it, however I thought a lot of it was to drawn out. Its definitely experimental also in the fact that something like this could never happen, because if a planet ever got hat close to earth then something would have most likely happened to us before it literally just crashed right into us. I enjoy this perception though because it gives us a sense of what could be, and it also makes us open our eyes to what people really go through and suffer with on a day-to-day basis.
This movie was a tale of an immigrant seeking money and power who untimely set up his own demise. The producers did a good job at pointing out certain features that let you into the life of an organized crime leader. He tells of his humble beginnings and shows you in details how he rose to the top. The producer had a point to make and I took that point as being you can never get and stay someone good while being bad. The sound effects and graphics also makes this movie. They show just enough to intrigue you but yet not to completely make you sick to your stomach. The music is very telling and
In One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, R.P. McMurphy is not a typical patient stuck in a ward. In fact, McMurphy is one idiosyncratic patient that no one in the ward has ever encountered. But throughout the book, he becomes an innate leader and a “martyr” for the other patients in the book, much like Christ in the Bible. Christ is an intended symbol that the author, Ken Kesey, uses in this book. McMurphy acts like Christ in the book—a model and leader for his disciples, the other patients. He tries to free the other patients from Nurse Ratched, the psychotic, inhumane leader of them all. He “fights” Nurse Ratched by becoming a leader for the other patients so that they may have hope that they can make it out of this ward still sane, despite what Nurse Ratched has done to them to brainwash them into believing that she is a good, caring leader who can be trusted. It is right in that case to associate him with a powerful, and worshipped leader such as Christ. However, McMurphy is not a Christ-figure due to his violent, sexual and seemingly amoral behavior throughout the book, despite all the things that make him seem worthy to be compared to Christ. Christ is a sinless, holy being. That one detail may seem insignificant to some, but it is actually the stripped down reason, the core reason, why McMurphy is not like Christ. McMurphy’s weakness to gamble excessively, his want to rebel without reason, and his desire to do risqué behavior, sins which he commits, conclude that McMurphy is not a figure similar to Christ.
Honestly I thought that the movie had such a simple story but at the same time it is so complex. The way it was delivered it was amazing, it's such a moving film. The actor’s were amazing, there isn’t anything I would want to change about this film. I would 100% recommend this movie to anyone, its so inspiring and it really makes you think.
In the 1950’s, mental hospitals weren’t what they are now. In Ken Kesey’s One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, he shows how people in mental hospitals were treated at that time all through the eyes of an Indian man named Chief Bromden. Ken Kesey uses his personal experiences to add settings and even characters to show this in his writing. His life is clearly seen by McMurphy’s problem with authority which goes perfectly with his own and by the setting of a mental hospital, which Kesey once worked in.
I like the artistic picture in the film and I think that the true story conforms enough. In my opinion, this film does not reach the top mark, mostly because of the perceived missing sequences. I would give the film the mark 4 out of 5.

With the help of superb editing, sound, mise en scene, and cinematography, this film cannot be topped. The fist scene of the movie creates an atmosphere that helps the viewer know that he/she will enjoy this wonderful classic. Throughout the movie there are surprises and fun that makes this a movie that people will want to watch again and again. Gene Kelly said it best when he said, "Dignity, always dignity. " That is what this movie has from beginning to end, dignity.

Overall, the score was beautiful and appropriate, adding suspense and mystery at all the right times. The sound effects added psychological flavor to the story without drawing too much attention to it.
The movie overall had a tremendous impact on my personality since it made me realize that every successful man in the world whether its Bill Gates, Chris Gardner or Carlos Smith have gone through immense hardships, struggling phases and complications in their personal and professional life to achieve the status, prestige and respect that they have today. They could have accepted these problems to adjust themselves with the existent scenario and situations, but the actual triumph of these people lie in recognizing the fact that all these problems and toils are there germinate greater resistance, potential of perseverance and willpower in them in order to transform them into a person who is fearless and disciplined enough to handle any kind of difficulty with extreme wisdom and sagacity.
Baz Luhrmann has done this film in a unique and brilliant way, with help of the above, and of course a great loved story as a base.
Since the movie came out in 2006, “ The Pursuit of Happyness” has been one of my favorite movies. A non-fiction movie based on a true story, of a man called Chris Gardner and his son Christopher Gardner Jr. Both these roles are played by the famous actors Will Smith, and his real life son Jaden Smith. In this very inspirational movie, directed by Gabriele Muccino, Will smith plays out Chris Gardner when he was struggling to start as a stockbroker while being a father in need of money. This movie takes place at San Francisco in 1981, and has always meant a great deal to me. Inspiring me to always work my hardest in order to be successful in life. ...movie that I fell in love with. But most of all I love how the story line is a great overlap into the cinematically engaging movie. There is a great use of camera, timing, shots and story line that are portrayed in this movie without being too overwhelming. This allows the audience to relax during the movie and just take in the scenes as a story from reality. To this day, and even still doing this paper I still come to find different aspects of the movie that I missed the previous times I have watched it.
I really liked when the scenes where the image and sound both work together great. I refer to the silence as nothingness and feeling alone because that describes the dark silences perfectly. It is definitely the most prominent part in the movie, and I think more movies should try to use silence to their advantage. I absolutely think that the movie uses silence expressively. For one thing, they are in space so there isn’t a lot of noise in the middle of the galaxy, but for some reason when I think back to when there were shots of the rocket ship in the dark galaxy I think of how the film makers made there be no background noise except the ship which was nice because it made it seem very realistic. Usually in movies there is a lot of background music that you don’t notice, but it helps the scene out. In this case the director used silence to make the scenes more realistic. I think of the scene where Matthew McCaughey goes into the dark hole. He was narrating at the time then suddenly you hear dead silence. It made me have a deeper connection with the movie because the movie was silent, but so were my thoughts. When I think back to the movie, I don’t remember there being a lot of music because it all just blended in, then I went back to see if they had anything special about their music I noticed all the different types of music they had throughout the movie.
