THE JOURNAL OF THE JAGUARS, PANTHERA ONCA
the untold story of Earth's third largest feline
PROLOGUE
The jaguar is the third-largest of the world's four species of big cats. These big cats are members of the Felidae family where other cats such as leopards, cougars, lions belong. The jaguar's scientific name is Panthera onca. Once widespread across North America from coast to coast, the jaguar is now occasionally seen in the United States. The cat can be found in Mexico and Central and South America and prefers dense rainforests where it can hide from its only predator, humans. Humans have been proven a threat to the species. The population of jaguars are threatened for reasons that poachers are killing them for their fur, loss of habitat due to deforestation, and to protect livestock— all consequences to jaguars from the damage of human activities. As defense, jaguars attack humans rarely but they are known to stalk people as a way to escorting them out of their territories.
On that note, jaguars are silent apex predators. Jaguars can prey on a wide range of animals, from climbing trees where they attack monkeys or on the ground where they crush animals as small as snakes, rats, or turtles. Which isn't much of a shock because according to "Jaguars" by Vicky Franchino, "Jaguars are muscular animals with powerful jaws, legs and broad, rounded feet, making them silent stalkers and expert climbers, leapers, and swimmers." With plentiful of prey to devour, Jaguars have developed massive skulls and powerful canine teeth and jaws.
The jaguar's coloration provides camouflage, especially in rainforest habitats where the jaguars dense spots blend with the forest's environment. Jaguars vary in color from golden yellow t...

In the past few years, the controversy over Native American and other racial sport names or mascots have become an uproar. The main sport teams that are being targeted due to controversial mascots are programs having names dealing with Native Americans. Many teams are well known programs such as the Atlanta Braves, Cleveland Indians, and the Washington Redskins. The Redskins are receiving the most heat from racial groups. According to Erik Brady of USA Today “The volatility surrounding such names has amped up in the year since Daniel Snyder, owner of Washington's NFL club, told USA TODAY Sports that he'd never change his team's name: ‘NEVER — you can use caps.’” (3). However, professional teams are not the only teams receiving negative remarks,
America’s Team Will the real “America’s Team” please stand up? This term is widely used throughout the media when referring to the Dallas Cowboys. “America’s Team” was first coined some 40 years ago while introducing them for a feature film by the legendary sport writer Bob Ryan. In the following years, because of their success and mass media exposure they were a team that America as a nation could identify with ,so the name stuck. The Cowboys since those days has regressed into a very mediocre team who only looks for moral instead of actual Super Bowl victories.
For as long as I can remember I have been a Notre Dame football fan. My father is to credit for getting me into it. He brought us to South Bend a couple of time for some games and I was just amazed by the campus and the history of the football program, so it was no surprise that I chose this particular book. Shake Down The Thunder: The Creation of Notre Dame Football was written by a man named Murray Sperber who was a sports writer interested on why fans were so into college football. Because of his interest Sperber decided to go around the country to certain college campuses to do research on this. He started with the University of Notre Dame because he was aware of the history and the passion of their football program, he was also aware of the appreciation Notre Dame had from their fans. This book deals with they history of Notre Dame football including the nation championships, the players, the coaches, and the program itself. It explains exactly what happened thought out its history, the reality behind the myths so to speak. Notre Dame was very kind to Murray Sperber in that he was given many privileges that other authors of books regarding Notre Dame football were deprived of. These privileges allowed Sperber to do research on Notre Dame from a different point of view and in his research he found documents that jumpstarted his interest to actually write this fantastic book.
As of now, the Pygmy three-toed-sloth are critically endangered and weak law enforcement, deforestation, and poachers are to blame. The Pygmy three-toed sloths are described to have buff-colored faces with dark circles that surround the eye and go outwards to their temples. Like all sloths, they are always in doldrums, which can be very unbeneficial to them. They have clay-orange fur that covers their face and their hair is long and bushy. “Long hair hangs forward to the forehead, giving the impression of a hood” (Grzimek 161).
Charley Johnson is a very talented NFL quarterback from NMSU that not many people know about. Having accomplished so much, I feel that people should. Bleacher Report’s Brendan Majev, ranked him the 91st greatest quarterback of all time. He was drafted 10th round by the St. Louis Cardinals. After playing with them and the Oilers, he ended his career with the Denver Broncos in 1975. Topics gone over in this essay include his early life, his college football career, his NFL career, his army career, and his education.
Jay's Journal is an interesting book written by Jay. The story is about Jay and how he was led into witchcraft and the occult and using drugs by his girlfriend and others. The author tells how Jay was led into all of this, and it also tells how he got his two best friends into using the same stuff and into the occult also known as the O. The author describes how he learned that the human race was afraid of mind over matter techniques and learned how to use them himself. He was able to levitate small objects and see peoples auwa and aura. This is a great book because it helps some people that deal with the same problems to see what might happen if they choose to follow the same path. I really liked this book because it might help people deal with this type of stuff, it was written in a real person's journal and described what led to his death, and I like how it says what happened every day of his life.
When I started this project I already knew a little bit of history about the Green Bay Packers. I already knew that they had won the first and second ever Super Bowls. Since then they have been to three more Super Bowls and won two of them which puts them in third place tied with the New York Giants and the New England Patriots. They had won nine championships before the AFL NFL merger of 1970. With their 4 Super Bowls and 9 championships they have the most championship titles in world history.
Furthermore, the grey squirrel’s color and size are distinctive traits that separate it from other species. First of all, coloring stays the same when it comes to males and females. Its hue ranges from pale grey to dark grey (Fischer, Lawinczak, Pagad). Its ears, underparts, and tail are all white to pale grey. Ginger-colored fur can be found on this squirrel’s head, hips, feet, and underparts (Lawiczak, Pagad). A natural occurrence among the grey squirrel is melanism, meaning it has an elevated amount of melanin in its pelt (Fischer, Lawinczak, Pa...
Lions have relatively short-legged, long, muscular bodies and large heads. The male grows on average to 1.7 to 2.5 m (5.6 to 8.2 ft) long, not including the tail, which is 90 to 105 cm (36 to 41 in) in length. It stands 1.23 m (4 ft) high at the shoulder, and it weighs 150 to 250 kg (330 to 550 lb). The mane, which covers the head and neck, sometimes extends to the shoulders and belly. The mane will vary in color and length; well-fed, healthy lions have longer, fuller manes. Females are smaller but equally muscular. Lions vary in color from golden to brown. The mane of a male lion will vary from black to yellow. Both sexes have retractable claws to keep them sharp when they are needed. Lions have wide powerful jaws. The lions roar, which can be heard by humans up to 9 (5.6 miles) kilometers away, is usually uttered before the animals hunt in the evening, after a successful hunt, and again in the early morning.
The Florida panther (Puma concolor coryi) has been on the endangered species list since 1967 with only 130 individuals surviving within a small area in Southern Florida (Sullivan 2004). Prior to conservation efforts, the Florida panther has suffered several population losses due to inbreeding, habitat loss, and vehicular collisions with only an estimated 30 surviving individuals in the 1970s (Maehr 1992). The number one threat to the Florida panther is habitat loss and habitat fragmentation due to urban development in Southern FL within the hardwood hammocks and wetland habitats in which they live in. Most of the current panther population is located within public lands such as the Big Cypress National Reserve and the Everglades, with some rehabilitation centers such as White Oak and the Florida Panther National Wildlife Refuge to help with conservation efforts within this area (see Figure 1: Florida Panther Home Ranges).

Bengal tiger’s are one of the largest and most feared cats in the cat family. An adult tiger can weigh any where from 350 to 550 pounds. The adult males weigh an average of 480 pounds, while the females weigh about 300. Their body lengths are between 6 and 9 feet long! A Bengal tiger hunts primarily deer, wild pigs, water buffalo, birds and other small mammals. When driven from hunger a this tiger will eat almost anything. Crocodiles, lizards, fish, and even humans are eaten by a frustrated Bengal tiger. They eat meat and only meat. Their style of attack is differant from the cheetah’s and the lion’s; who hunt in open habitats. Although it is a heavier predator than that of the lion and cheetah, it averages about 50 deer a year. Bengal tigers need a wide forest-like areas to hunt their prey. They are known to hunt alone, but have been found to hunt in packs. These tigers are semi-nocturnal, bec...
