Abortion is an immensely sensitive and controversial topic, it is frowned upon by many for a variety of reasons including religious and moral abjections. Abortion is the deliberate termination of a foetus before it reaches 41 weeks by either taking prescribed medicine or by having a surgical procedure. In England abortion has been legal since the passing of the abortion act in 1967;Under UK law, which comprises of England, Scotland and wales (excluding Northern Ireland) abortion can usually only be carried out within the first 24 weeks of pregnancy and carried out by two doctors. Before the advent of the abortion act there were a lot of illegal backstreet abortions being performed by either unscrupulous doctors or unqualified personnel resulting to around 40 women dying each year from injury such as a haemorrhage or infection. The abortion act was consequently created not only to protect women but for public health reasons.
Women today may choose to have an abortion for a variety of reasons, one of such reasons is contraceptive failure, it has been found that over half the women who choose to have an abortion used a contraceptive method that failed them in the month they became pregnant, they may then choose to have an abortion because of this. With barrier methods like the male condom which provide only 98% and the female condom providing 95% guarantee when used properly, it is no wonder why abortion is an option to many when the precautionary measures they have taken fail.
Another reason a woman may choose to have an abortion may be due to undesirable circumstances such as incest or rape. Rape is becoming more prevalent, according to (rape crisis) there are approximately 85,000 cases on average reported each year in England a...

Gender selective abortion is a procedure for couples who have a predisposition to conceive either a girl or boy, it is an expensive IVF procedure called Preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) and costs at least £1,950 a lot of moral concerns are raised with this selection process as healthy embryos are discarded in order to find the preferred gender of choice.

CONCLUSION(restate argument) In conclusion, with all the above mentioned points one can deduct that abortion today is unjustifiable neither acceptable nor unacceptable due to a variety of circumstances in which the abortion may be performed. One can say that people’s views are becoming far more liberal from the days of the 1800s when abortion was considered inhumane and not acceptable
