Homosexual couples have had to endure much due to them not only being a minority, but also being declared illegal. I believe that homosexual marriage should be legal in Georgia.
To delve into an issue as divisive as this, understanding why it is illegal in the first place is in order. In 1996 the United States Congress passed DOMA, the Defense of Marriage Act, into law. This law was made in order to define what marriage means when writing laws. The Defense of Marriage Act states “… The word “marriage” means only a legal union between one man and one woman as husband and wife, and the word “spouse” refers only to a person of the opposite sex who is a husband or a wife” (1 USC 7). Since then there have been many court cases and even more debates on the subject of legal same-sex marriage. Several of the court cases have overturned state laws that defined marriage as being only between one man and one woman. Some of these court cases have shown that the Defense of Marriage Act has violated in the constitution on several areas. The current president, Barrack Obama, stated in May 2012 “It is important for me to go ahead and affirm that I think same-sex couples should be able to get married” (Swaine, “Barrack Obama Endorses Gay Marriage”). This makes him the first President of the United States to openly support gay marriage. In 2013 there was a Supreme Court case that turned over the Defense of Marriage Act. This allowed for gay marriage to be legal on a federal level, but not a state level.
The reason I believe that gay couples should be allowed to marry is because I believe in equality for all. It is despicable that other human beings should be treated differently simply because their life choices are fundamentally different than ...

...community and the fact that it has already been legalized already show that this is something that is necessary to happen. The fact that court case after court case has overturned other state laws that banned gay marriage and that having laws that restricts freedoms of a specific people goes completely against the ideals that this country were founded upon shows that legalizing gay marriage in Georgia needs to happen soon.

...cause of the negative impact that it will have on our society, it destroys our sense of conservatism and sense of positive morality, it destroys and disturbs the natural laws of attraction in life, and Georgia should not support gay marriage because this group tries to convince that their sinful actions are ok and that now harm will come to the public. Clearly there are many issues with Gay marriage in our system known as the United States of America, and if Georgia was smart in their legislation, then we will not tolerate this sort of tyranny in our state, and will overall make a stand is being a Christian and family believing state.
As an American citizen, a person should be entitled to marry whoever they choose, regardless of gender or sexual preference. Gay marriage is something that some people consider to be taboo while other people are very supportive of it; I am one of the latter. The ability to marry someone is a basic human right and it should not be taken away from someone because they love a person of the same gender. One of the main reasons that gay marriage is illegal in the United States is because of what the Bible says about it, regardless of the fact that the first Amendment of the US Constitution says that there is to be a separation between church and state. Approximately three point eight percent of the United States population is made up of people
Gay marriage should be illegal because it is a sin. It is against natural law, and God disapproves of the lifestyle choice.

Same-sex marriages should be legal everywhere in the United States of America. According to the Constitution, marriage is a civil right that all Americans are born with. Our country has decided by passing the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) in 1996 that two people of the same gender cannot get married. By taking away this basic civil right, America has defied what our Founding Fathers based our country one, freedom. Homosexuals are allowed to speak freely, to bear arms, to have privacy, to b...
Gay Marriage should be legal nationwide because no matter who you are, you deserve to be happy. In the bible, marrying the same gender is a sin, but whether you shoot up a school or you marry the same sex, a sin is a sin and God forgives all sins. People should not be looked down upon for being gay or wanting to be gay. Straight people treat gay people as if they are lesser, all people are equal. Not a single person is better than another. Gay people have a right to be happy and marry the one they love, same as straight people. Everyone deserves to find their special one, even if that means they are the same gender.

There are many opponents of gay people as it is, and they all have their reasons to dislike the idea of permitting them get married. One of the main reasons is that the primary purpose of marriage is procreation. Because gay couples are unable to have children, they should not be allowed to marry (Schiffen 495). Another main argument is that the word marriage means the union of one man and one woman. This is a long-standing theme of most major Western religions. Under a proposed bill known as the Defense of Marriage act, marriage is defined as “a legal union between one man and one woman as husband and wife.” Furthermore, it defines a spouse as “ a person of the opposite sex who is a husband or wife” (What 1). Under these guidelines, it is quite obvious that gay couples would not be eligible for marriage. People against homosexual marriage also say that it is a person’s choice to be gay. Since the individual chooses to be a homosexual, they should not be given special privileges. Another argument that you hear is that these couples should not get married simply because of the torment and ridicule they would be faced with in their everyday lives. There are news reports from across America telling about how a gay person was beaten or killed just because they were looked at as different. Some of these people would end up the target of verbal abuse and maybe even physical abuse, just because some heterosexual people see them as different.

Gay and lesbian unions have been for a long time a subject that no one liked to discuss. For the last few decades, gays and lesbians have come out and expressed their sexuality preferences. Many believe that same sex marriage should not be legalized because it's against the moral. It's against the definition of marriage, which is considered as the union of a man and a woman as a husband and wife. Same sex marriage should be legalized because the way society views the union of lesbian and gays can a change. Another reason why same sex marriage should be legalized is that children that are issued from a gay or lesbian couple will be loved and raised in a family that is legally recognized under the law. Lesbians and gays also deserve to have the same rights as heterosexuals.
Gay Marriage is now legal in seventeen states. The government of those sates believe that one’s marriage rights are civil rights. However, gay marriage is not a civil right, therefore, it should not be legalized.
