Determine a topic and develop specific questions
At the school that I work at reading classes are only required in sixth grade. In seventh and eighth grade reading classes can be taken as an elective class. I strongly feel that all students in middle school still need guidance and continuous practice with reading comprehension and critical thinking skills. Students who are beyond a sixth grade reading class are not getting these reading skills that can be applied in all other academic classes. As a teacher I can not change the fact that the school principal has decided that students in seventh and eighth grade are not required to take a reading class. However I can find other ways to make sure that all students know the reasons and benefits for understanding the source that they are reading, whether it is the sports section of the paper or a chapter in the history text book. It is also important that students know how to critically think before, during, and after reading.
From a media specialist point of view I can see the importance of collaborating with teachers in order to provide lessons where reading comprehension and critical thinking skills are emphasized in the lesson. I also see a benefit of the media specialist to co-teach in lessons that incorporate the support of reading comprehension and critical thinking skills. “We can be instrumental in helping students and teachers see the connection between the process of reading comprehension and the information literacy process.” (Moreillon, Judi, 2008)
My research question may be: How and why should media specialist and teachers collaborate to improve reading comprehension and critical thinking reading skills?

The student survey will be used to get feedback on how the students feel that they are lacking reading skills since they are no longer taking a reading class. The observation, parent questionnaire, and the student survey will help in determine the validity and reliability.

The New York Knicks are in a tough fight for a potential spot in the playoffs with two months of play remaining in the season. The recent effort from the team utilizing team president Phil Jackson's triangle offense has sparked the team offensively quickly making star forwards Kristaps Porzingis and Carmelo Anthony fans.

This is not an acquisition, or a merger, or a takeover. This is a partnership, a chance for competitors to come together and achieve greatness, similar to “The Dream Team” of USA Basketball. No one would ever question the greatness, or competitiveness, or rivalries, of Bird vs. Johnson, or Jordan vs. Ewing. These men were able to put that aside to achieve something remarkable, that has never been duplicated, and likely never will. We will accomplish this and eventually make our opponents look like Angola. Everyone that wishes too, will have the opportunity to contribute to being apart of this. No idea, no matter how small or who from, will go unheard. If you have have something that you feel will improve this company, and it is not heard, you have no one to blame but yourself. If you feel you cannot take your idea to your supervisor, email me. I will listen to you, and whether I agree with you or not,

A lot of experts think the Nets should seek trades for Brook Lopez and Thaddeus Young before the trade deadline. By trading those two, the Nets could get a draft pick (or two) back. But here’s why I think that’s a bad idea.

While I believe every child is a reader, I do not believe every child will be enthralled with reading all the time. All students have the capability to read and enjoy reading, but just like any other hobby, interest will vary from student to student. The students in my classroom will be encouraged in their reading, be provided with choice, taught how books can take you into another world but, my students will not be forced to read. This paper will illustrate my philosophy of reading through the theories I relate to, the way I want to implement reading and writing curriculum, and the methods I will use motivate my students to read and help them become literate.

...ating technology provides students with opportunities to succeed in reading and writing. As an educator, and possibly a future literacy educator it is vital to teach students that learning is not something that only happens in school. Learning will happen every day for as long as one lives. Learning happens at school, at home, at a sporting event, at the mall, or on the computer. Learning happens everywhere. It is also important to teach students reading is everywhere and it will follow them the rest of their life. As educators, we need to help students enjoy reading and develop a love for it that will last forever. It is our role to therefore provide the best instruction possible and use assessment that allows children to succeed. Most importantly, as life long learners ourselves, we need to strive to make sure that our students become and stay life long learners.
