Important Language Skill Out of the Four Language Skills Communication plays a vital role in our daily life. To acquire good communication, command on four language skills is important i.e. Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking. I studied a few articles in which the authors specified the significance of each language skill. They found a strong positive relation between the four skills and stated that none of these is complete without the other. Effective communication is acquired after learning these skills well. My goal in this paper is to highlight the importance of the four language skills especially reading, which I consider to be the most important language skill. For this purpose, I have organized my paper into four main sections. In the first section, I have given brief introduction of each communication skill (i.e. reading, writing, listening and speaking) and highlighted the importance of each of them. In the second section, I provide an account of importance and interrelation of the four communication skills separately and support and specify the importance of reading skill for acquisition of knowledge. I end my paper with the third section that offers conclusions drawn from my study and observations, opening new ventures for future study. The third section follows the fourth section which states the work I have cited in my paper. Before stating the importance of reading, I begin my paper with defining the communication skills and defining each skill separately, and describing their importance in our life. Reading is one important way to improve your general language skills in English. The outstanding developments in technology and communications have made learning foreign languages in general and English language in particular essential for every individual. English language has become an international language and a means of communication among people all over the world. In learning a language, there are four skills that we need to improve for complete communication. They are listening, speaking, reading and writing.
Good reading skills are very important in learning languages. Reading improves spelling because as students learn to sound out letters and words, spelling comes easier. It helps to expand the vocabulary, since the best way to acquire a large vocabulary is to read. Students learn new words as they read and put them in their mind for later use. . They also unconsciously absorb the information about things like how to structure the sentences, how words are used in different contexts, and it gives a better understanding of the word usage and definitions than the cold facts of a dictionary. It improves a person’s vocabulary and knowledge without the person even knowing it. Even if students do not understand every word, they will hear new sounds, words and phrases which they can then try out, copying what they have heard. They can comprehend ideas, follow arguments and detect implications. Reading texts also provide good models for English writing. Krashen (2004) found that reading is extremely important in learning English, since it is the only way to “become a good reader, develop a good writing style, an adequate vocabulary, advanced grammar” and the only way to “become a good speller”.

Getting along with everyone, teachers and classmates helps develop the required communication skills since high school. Thus, all the necessary skills will be developed, adopted and most definitely carried along by them towards their working environment. This ensures that communication barriers are
Speaking is a natural ability given to most reluctant individuals. Since the beginning of time, it has been assumed that we have a right to speak and use words, thus we naturally begin our development of language during the early stages of live. After years of grasping and perfecting our vocabulary and language, it seems unnecessary to study the purpose of our development. Why, then, should we study “oral communication?” There are many purposes, benefits, and institutions that branch from oral communication. Of course, communication is the basis of interaction with other individuals through the use of expressions and words; however, through studying oral communication, one can take the words and expressions being used and apply them to his or her own life. After all, the most effective and useful knowledge is applied knowledge.
