Although, the act and art of teaching is not essentially changing because education is about conveying knowledge and understanding from one person to another. We are in the era of technology, and from here on out technology will only grow exponentially with many benefits for today’s education. Tom Imburgia of Cardinal O’Hara high school, describes how teaching is evolving:
“I would like to emphasize the difference between information and knowledge. Anyone with an internet connection can access the world’s information reserve, understanding the content and assimilating it as knowledge is a different issue. I think the tools for teaching are evolving very quickly and certainly the content grows every day. Laptops, the internet, mobile phones and other smart devices are merely new tools to be applied to the age old process of creating synaptic connections.
Much like biological evolution, the evolution in education is also dependent upon the environment teachers and students exist within. Most recently, the demand for compliance to Common Core standards has driven curriculum decisions and therefore lesson planning and lessons themselves. Those who make a practice of studying the process of education delineate and promote theories which find acceptance or rejection for reasons that are at times impossible to discern. Often it seems that the temperature on the ground and in the classrooms as reported by the teachers is ignored if solicited at all” (personal communication, April 8, 2014).

In earlier times, the acquisition and spreading of knowledge was not used to improve society. Instead it was used to have control and to exclude certain groups. As one could imagine, there needed to be a change in the way that the education system was set up. In her essay, “Project Classroom Makeover”, Cathy Davidson discusses how the “one size fits all” model of learning hinders students from learning in a new and modernized way. She suggests the notion that using technology to teach and learn can be effective in many ways. Davidson shows that using technology presents the opportunity for a traditional classroom to become more inclusive and creative. The “democratization of knowledge” is the improvement and modernization of how information is taught and learned. Having a modernized and advanced learning system is a vital point for students because they gain insight and experience with what is considered a society dominated by advanced technology. Therefore, the way in which a student’s view of the world will change must be taken into consideration when implementing technology into a curriculum. Source B specifically addresses that a student’s view of the world will change with technology when it says “educators are beginning to interact with students, parents, and each other in ways they have never before.” While remaining neutral concerning whether or not the implementation of technology is beneficial or not, Source B agrees that the internet undeniably changes the perspective people have on reality, especially since technology changes the way people interact with each other not only online, but in person as well. Technology plays a very important role in today’s society. Everyone has a smart phone and we crave the latest and greatest televisions, computers, cell phones and tablets. Some of these include iPhones, iPads, MacBooks, Samsung Smart TVs, Samsung Smart watches and the new Google Glass. More and more schools are using technology in their teaching methods including our own one-to-one program at Oxon Hill High School where each student received a Samsung Google Chromebook. Technology should be used in school’s curriculum and instruction because of improved communication, innovations to come and convenience to both the students and the teachers.

Recent studies have revealed the benefits and long-term effects of early-childhood education. Between the social interaction, discipline, and the development from an academic setting, there are countless benefits to early childhood education. However, this is not accessible to everyone due to lack of educators, financial resources, or being uninformed of its importance. Preschool should be provided to all families because the preschool age is when majority of brain development occurs. In the past, technology was something that was only used in our homes and by the wealthy. However, this has become a thing of the past. Classrooms have become more interactive and lessons seem to be more engaging. Students have been given the opportunity to use Smart Boards, document cameras, projectors, and wireless slates. In order for our students to feel comfortable, when using the different technologies, they must have some amount of background knowledge. If a student is not given this background knowledge, they will have more difficulty utilizing the technology than someone who has the background knowledge. Teachers in classrooms today must also have some type of knowledge of the technology being used. A great way to build this knowledge is to attend training sessions that your district may be holding, and utilize the technology as much as possible.
The classroom is a place that is constantly trying to be improved for the betterment of students’ education. New teaching methods and improvement in environment are all constantly being researched; however, recently, research on technology in the classroom has flourished. The Smart Classroom contains these technological advances and triggers them toward in-hancing student learning.

Technology today is integrated into the classroom as a teaching tool rather than being taught as a course. Teachers will continue to be the most important aspect of a child’s education because they teach and technology does not. The use of technology in the classroom can bring advantages to a child’s education but can also bring disadvantages (Cleaver, 2011).
