If one was to think of the crowning achievement of mankind to date, what would it be? Would it be communication from pole to pole? Would it be being able to save millions of bits of data in a device no larger than a pin? Would it be traveling to space and back? All of these things are great; however, they are not the best thing that humans have achieved. The true paramount achievement of mankind is the use of imagination. This statement might be doubted by some. However, at the core of all achievements, mentioned or not, is imagination. In the eyes of many, nothing is greater, or more important than imagination. Imagination has brought humanity knowledge, saved lives, and above all, has changed the world. The importance of creativity and imagination can be seen through how they influence societies, what stories have been passed down from generation to generation, and what influences story-telling today.
The imaginations of many people have set the course for the world over the last few hundred years, mainly through inventions. In the American West, an invention was created that has had just such an effect. Levi Strauss made a “soft cotton [fabric] called denim” which was designed for the rough labors of ‘gold mining [and] cattle herding” (Lambert). Since then, these ‘Levi’s’ have become popular throughout the world, and some “450 million pairs of jeans are sold in the [United] States” each year (Lambert). This amazing product, that has influenced the world for many years, came to be because one person imagined something. That one person questioned what was possible, and worked to change what could be.
The discovery of radio is another way that imagination has influenced society. Heinrich Hertz discovered that there were invisible...

When you go to the mall to pick up a pair of jeans or a shirt, do you think about where they came from? How they were made? Who made them? Most consumers are unaware of where their clothes are coming from. All the consumer is responsible for is buying the clothing from the store and most likely have little to no knowledge about how it was manufactured, transported, or even who made the clothing item and the amount of intensive labor that went into producing it (Timmerman, 3). In my paper, I will utilize the book Where Am I Wearing? by Kelsey Timmerman and the textbook Cultural Anthropology: A Toolkit for a Global Age by Kenneth J. Guest to examine globalization in the context of the clothing industry.
Fabric that came from Europe costed as much as the equivalent to the garment itself. It became less expensive to make your own fabric than to buy it. “Producing one’s own clothes . . . meant weavin...
Imagination sets people from the real world by giving them the ability to form creative choices. Imagination empowers humans, in away to allow people to create art and
First connotations were simple: "jeans are tough and rugged as men who wear them". This image of a 100% man was even strengthened after western movies appeared. Soon jeans, and so Levi’s brand which in people’s mind turned to be their synonymous, became a symbol of freedom, adventure and independence. In this moment, managers of LS&Co decided to expand the brand. Even though there where various new cloths introduced to the market ; 501 jeans remained their top-selling product. It was their new brand strategy to "offer products for every life style", which turned to be a fiasco. Not only it didn’t bring expected results, what is more, this to big diversification caused drops in sales. It was so decided to come back to the core product and it’s image. To strengthen the Levi’s position on a market, their launched a new campaign which emphasizes emotional connection between jeans and theirs owner. To wear 501 it is to be yourself – they said.
Imagination penetrates below the surface and comprehends and brings to light the deeper forces and facts--the real controlling instincts of characters, the real motives for actions, and the relations of material things to those of the spiritual world and of Man to Nature and God
Understanding creativity is essential to understanding how biological decline of the brain impacts creativity as a cognitive ability. So how exactly does creativity work? Creativity is very abstract and it cannot be assessed physically, therefore psychologists have come up with models of how creativity works. One example is the creative cognition approach, which includes the Geneplore model of creative functioning (Finke et al., 1992). The main proposal was that many creative activities can be described as the first generation of ideas followed by an exploration of those ideas. These ideas are sometimes described as “pre-inventive” in the sense that they are either incomplete plans for some new product, tested solutions to difficult problems,
Music and other art forms often go hand in hand. Creativity is not just a one-note deal or rather it is not confined to a singular aspect or form. Oftentimes it is interlaced into many forms, such as, music, writing, artwork, fashion and much more. Like a tree, creativity grows and extends out into infinite directions rooting itself in society. One such artist is Brandon Boyd. During the day he is a contemporary artist and by night he is a singer-songwriter for an internationally recognized rock band, Incubus. Some of their songs include; “Pardon Me” form the album entitled, When Incubus Attacks Vol. 1, and “Drive, “Dig,” and “Oil and Water,” three of my favorites, from the album entitled, Monuments and Melodies and “Sad Sick Little World” from the album entitled, A Crow Left of the Murder. In a 2009 interview with CNN, Brandon said it best, when asked, “So what does art fulfill in you that you don’t get out of music?”
The creative ability of the human being is not only linked to their ability to reason and intelligence practice, but it is fed and driven by feelings.
Unremarkable denim fabric started to become a “gender- and class-blurring icon of the ‘American people’”. The Great Depression in 1950s became the impulse for the transformation. A series of circumstances pushed fashion industry in the US to “take up blue jeans as a stylistically and symbolically versatile, class- and gender-blurring national icon”.
The human imagination is a very powerful thing. It sets humanity apart from the rest of the creatures that roam the planet by giving them the ability to make creative choices. The imaginary world is unavoidably intertwined with the real world and there are many ways by which to illustrate this through literature, either realistically or exaggerated. Almost everything people surround themselves with is based on the unreal. Everything from the food we eat to the books we read had to have been thought of by someone and their imagination. The imagination empowers humans.^1 It allows people to speculate or to see into the future. It allows artists to create, inventors to invent, and even scientists and mathematicians to solve problems. J.R. Tolken wrote “Lord of the Rings” by sitting in his backyard and imagining everything coming to life.^2 He thought about all the “what if” possibilities. But this method of storytelling can be used in much more subtle and/or sophisticated ways than in science fiction or fantasy novels. Through such works as the short story Dreams and the novel “Headhunter” by Timothy Findley, the film “the Matrix”, and the short story the Telltale Heart by Edgar Allan Poe, one can see how a writer can use the concept of the imaginary invading reality to write their story.
I was always a creative child; it was something I just could not not be. Back then I didn’t know how to be ‘normal.’ While the other children wrote their essays about their mothers and pets or their best friends, I wrote about becoming birds or about ducks building robots. Truly. I suppose I could blame it on my parents – my father for trying to teach me how to read when I was too young and my mother for reading The Hobbit by JRR Tolkein to me as my bedtime story – but I know, truthfully, that it wasn’t their fault. It is no one’s fault, for I do not see my strange imagination as a terrible, abnormal thing. I do know that no one in particular influenced my creativity when I was younger, but I remember being obsessive about certain stories. I remember when I got my first computer – a 16-color piece of, well, garbage that barely ran. But even though it was so old and primitive, it opened new doors for my imagination, and I spent my childhood either playing games about knights and dragons or running around outside and acting out my own unscripted scenari...
In the world of fashion, there is denim. It is one of the world’s oldest fabrics, and has been modified and remodelled to go with the latest fashion trends. The first ones who wore this fabric are workers in the California Gold Rush era, designed by Jacob Davis because of its sturdy material that withstood the harsh working conditions. Not just them, even sailors from Italy use this material too as their sailing uniform. Then, it started appearing as an actor’s apparel, and that’s when denim started to become one of a fashion item. People started wearing jeans as part of their daily apparel and even adding their own ideas, such as studs and colouring it with different shades of denim. It doesn’t only stop around that era, but today, they are seen everywhere and has become a major clothing piece for almost all of the age groups. As a reference, we can see young children already wears jeans as part of their clothing, the teenagers added jeans to their wardrobe, and even for the seniors, they consider jeans as a simple and comfortable clothing pieces.
There is an overwhelming amount of evidence of the human race realtion to, creativity and that we all have an interest in education. Education is so important to us because it is the only thing we can use for this unpredicted future. All children have talents, but the education system crushes our creativity because we are taught to think a certain way. Due to the fear of being wrong has led children to no longer be creative which is why many adults lose that “capacity” to be able to be creative. The very few children who are allowed to continue using their creativity tend to not to be as dissatisfied their lives as much as other adults who were not able to pursue passions they truly enjoyed.
In this essay, I aim to discuss the issue whether imagination is more important than knowledge. “For knowledge is limited to all we now know and understand, while imagination embraces the entire world, and all there will ever be to know and understand” (Albert Einstein).
All throughout time people have used their imaginative minds to express some form of art, whether it be painting, drawing, sculpture, and dance, theatre, music or technology, this has happened all around the world. Furthermore, I think that the youth of the world have the biggest imagination because everything to them is new and they can’t help but imagine “what if” or “how”. Therefor that’s the power of imagination, and preferably for me I use it for art. Art to me is almost like an escape from everything negative in my life. Many say that art is beauty, and we say beauty ...
