PhD in Epidemiology Candidate
Statement of Purpose
"Good, better, best; never let it rest till your good is better and your better is the best." Believing in this quote, I have always endeavored to raise my standards of success. It is this quest for increasing excellence that motivates me to pursue a PhD degree at your prestigious University in the USA. I wish to share with you, my feelings in this regard and the train of thoughts that lead me to this decision.
Every Individual wants to exceed and succeed in life. Every ordinary person wants to become extra ordinary in their perspective field but to exceed in the field of Epidemiology is a privilege. I perceive epidemiology as a statistical tool to capture data on health outcomes. The most interesting fact about research in epidemiology that attracts me is that I’ll get an in depth knowledge about the pattern and occurrence of diseases (where, when, how often and personal characteristics) which will help me to find varied solutions to eradicate the problem and make preventive measures. In a way, I will also get an opportunity to improve health and quality of life of masses of people, say as large as all the inhabitants of several continents rather than just the handful of people.
India is a country of billion people, though it is said to be culturally rich country but still there exist a disparity between rich and poor. India is my mother country and Mumbai is my home town, where daily living presents unimaginable challenges for those who are orphaned, abandoned or poor. As being a student in the field of Nutrition my focus is to improve living conditions for those in desperate needs, hence I need a career where I can work for the betterment of the society by giving them...

...out institution is the intellectual milieu it creates for beginners and its ability to sustain it. Your institution has worked hard to be at the helm in the ranking due to the quality and high standards it maintains and to be associated with such an institution is not only a privilege but is a stepping stone to raise my own performance and climb higher.
As Epidemiology is the most important aspect of medicine, and the health system in our society needs serious reform and the right management hence I would like to take an initiative to contribute for our society in the best way as I can. With this intention I wish to undergo a PhD program in Epidemiology, I wish to give back to the field what it offered to me ever so humbly in my formative years. I would be honored if I could make any contribution in the field that is innovative or add new light in any respect.
study I am going to go into detail about the epidemiology, discuss the signs and
In an effort to analyze the natural history of a disease, an epidemiological triangle is used. An epidemiological triangle is comprised of a susceptible host or individual, environment, and a causative agent. The host tends to have low immunity, poor nutrition, and a concurrent disease. The host tends to have poor

Right from my High school days I had a strong inclination to various programmes/ activities in health sector. My Interest in the subject has grown as it refers to "the science and art of preventing disease, prolonging life and promoting health through organized efforts and informed choices of society, organizations, public and private, communities and individuals which is concerned with threats to health. I have come to terms with the fact that there is an enormous proportion of subject to be assimilated; to focus on public health intervention to improve health and quality of life through prevention and treatment of disease and other physical and mental health conditions. Therefore I want to take up a vital role in disease prevention efforts in both the developing world and in developed countries.
To conclude, it is irrefutable that natural science are nowadays more valued and more funded but are working in very inefficient way to improve health. It is less conscious that the biggest gain in health is from primary prevention which is again interrelated with both public health and anthropology. Therefore, future public health interventions must be formulated and comprehended by communicating through concepts of disease in different cultural settings.
At the basic level epidemiologists study the distribution, incidence and control of diseases. They do such by a conducting an epidemiological investigation in order to accurately, rather than hastily, prevent more of the population from becoming contaminated and infected with the disease (Wheeling Jesuit University). An example of how this process takes place can be seen in Richard Prestons’s “The Hot Zone” when veterinarians
Social epidemiology is a branch of epidemiology that explains how socio-structural factors influence disease distribution in the society. Since every population is distinguished by the people that are present in it and their traits, this makes it very important to study the social, structural and biological factors that influence the decisions and behaviors of the people as this ultimately has a remarkable effect on health.
Looking after one’s health is very important as it helps us to stay away from diseases and live a happy life, which is why I personally worship my health. Therefore, I find it rather interesting to study about the diseases and it’s adverse effects on one’s health. In future, after completing my University, I have a strong desire to help the poor and illiterate people who don’t have access to the healthcare facilities.
As a population it is extremely important for us to be aware of the diseases that can be contagious to us. By having this opportunity to write a paper about epidemiology I will be able to do more research about epidemiology, so I can increase my knowledge about it and also be able to provide accurate information to the reader. In this essay I am going to write about epidemiology by describing what is epidemiology, how is it impact nursing care, talk about the work of several researcher such as John Snow, Ronald Ross, Janet-Claypon, Alexander Fleming, Frank Fenner by describing their work, and their current impact on nursing, and talk about some of the areas that has been affected with epidemiology in our society.
My aspirations in life are to obtain a Bachelor’s of Science in Public Health at The University of North Carolina at Charlotte. In addition, I will take The National Board of Public Health Examination to become certified in Public Health. I will acquire the appropriate experiences and knowledge by attending internships and job shadowing fellow public health associates. Secondly, I will further my education to achieve a Master of Science in Public Health to become a Public Health Analyst at The Center for Disease Control and Prevention. In addition, I will pursue to work for a government agency, such as the department of Health and Human Services and become a Public Health Advisor in Maryland. Lastly, I plan to obtain a business degree in Entrepreneurship to obtain the knowledge to open up a health and wellness clinic. This center will allow local residents to achieve physical exercise, mental counseling, receive nutritional facts, and obtain health screenings. Residents may also register in classes and sign up for volunteer work.
During the past years, interest in health care promotion has increased which has been due to several factors. The major factor has been the shift from infectious diseases to chronic diseases that has been named as world killers. This shift is commonly referred to as epidemiologic transition characterized by low birthrates, ageing population and increased cost of health care (Kessler et al, 2013). Previously, disease identification was easy but with changing times and the emergence of many diseases, characteristics of diseases hav...
Public Health is the science of preventing disease and promoting health through many different ideas and functions by informing society and different community-based organizations. The idea behind Public Health is to protect and serve; it helps improve the lives of countless individuals through promoting a healthier lifestyle, education, research, prevention, detection, and response management. From the beginning, the idea of Public Health has become a stepping-stone that is essential to the longevity of humans and the environment. As society progresses and new advents are created or modified, Public Health
Discussions throughout this essay will focus on the relevance of epidemiology to public health; firstly the concepts of epidemiology will be discussed alongside two examples of why epidemiology is relevant in the 21st century.
Epidemiology research, understanding of study design and methods, hypothesis formation, and writing a scientific poster help me develop pertinent research skills to success in a future in biomedical science. I aim to earn a Ph.D. in biomedical science and continue in health science that will positively impact the population. I believe that public health can fit together with biomedical science to find insight to molecular mechanisms and complex understanding of what diseases are seen in research fields like epidemiology. I am passionate about public health and epidemiology foci of nutrition so working on a project to prevent and dec...
