.Electronics and Communication has always been a fascinating subject for me. When I was away from home for my studies, I used to talk with my family on the telephone. The joy of talking to my family used to be over-shadowed by the curiosity of the telephone’s functioning. I always wondered how this small piece of plastic connected with a wire carries my father’s voice from miles away. The myriad of scientific technologies around me had a very strong influence in fueling my inquisitiveness towards it. My inclination towards Electronics started during my high school. Once, my Physics teacher got an award for speech recognition automatic typing machine for blind people. I was fascinated and could imagine how this could be boon for them. My curiosity had already started when my family watching television, father working in laptops or speaking on mobile phone. I was curious about functioning of Television, Laptops and Mobile phone. My mother and father could not answer my queries and my Science teacher’s explanations were over my head. This brought a greater desire for understanding than ever before. After deciding at a very early age about my career I paid ardent attention to physics and mathematics, the basics to electronics. During my high school to keep myself abreast with latest technological development, I joined Science Club, took part in various exhibitions and read many scientific journals through internet. I finished my intermediate level with good grades. Then I joined Bachelor in Electronics and Communication engineering at Pulchowk Campus. Though the learning techniques were not very practical there, the four years of rigorous theoretical study gave me insight into the depth of Electronics and Communication. If I can get an opportunity to be a part of that intellectually stimulating environment, I am sure my talents will be put to optimal use. I can polish my knowledge and skill with the advanced technologies available which I can use to improve the academic conditions here in my home country. Nepal is a developing country with an enormous potential in the information technology business. Electronics and communication is going to become of utmost importance to serve the needs of this developing industry. Thus, conditions here are very conducive to supplement my aspirations when I return after completing my graduate studies. Given a chance, I could broaden my creativity, perspective, and understanding of this subject to achieve this goal.
My parents have always taught my sisters and me about the importance of school, graduating, and doing my best. As a child, I attended Lyman Hall elementary from kindergarten to fifth grade. After that, I went to West Hall Middle School to West Hall High School, where I fortunately graduated in 2015. Now, I am a nineteen year old student at the University of North Georgia. Hopefully, I plan to continue college and graduate, being the second one in my family, with a nurse bachelor degree. As I walk through the campus, I see a variety of women working hard to gain a better education and lifestyle for themselves and their families. However, education was not the same from what it was in the past to what it is
1) How did the study of electrical engineering originate and who and what helped shape society?
After school I undertook undergraduate course in Electronics and Communication. I studied the engrossing subjects of electronic devices, digital electronics and wireless communication. Working on projects and seminars further sharpened my analytical skills and made my approach result oriented. Industrial exposure through summer internship in Nokia Siemens and Tata Communications further strengthened my basics and consolidated my aspirations to work in Telecom Industry.
The telephone is one the greatest inventions of all time dating back to 1876. It has made a powerful impact throughout history and changed the way we live today. Now most communication is done over social media and cellular communication. Throughout the first stages of the telephone, Alexander Graham Bell discovered “That a thin metal sheet vibrating in an electromagnetic field produces an electrical waveform.” (The 50) This process allows one to communicate without the need of face to face interaction. Thus eliminating the need for ancient communication methods such as the telegraph. Although Alexander is the inventor of the telephone he denied having one in his workplace fearful it would distract him of
Having grown up in a lower middle-class neighborhood myself, I have witnessed the challenges many students in these communities experience first-hand. I was lucky enough to attend a school with more resources, but many of my neighbors didn’t receive the same opportunity and struggled to keep up in school. For example, one of my neighbors didn’t have a car after his parents divorced and would miss school if he missed the bus. Other neighbors didn’t have access to computers or had to take care of their siblings while their parents worked, making it difficult for them to do homework. Knowing these children increased my awareness of how situations at home and financial struggles can affect a student’s education.
...e in the technologies of my hometown and my university has helped me a lot to do things faster. The technologies used in the educational sector of the United States are far better than any other nations. Every class has a projector; the labs are very well-equipped which provides the students practical knowledge about the course they are studying. Therefore, to keep pace with the fast moving world with modern technologies, I need to think fast and do things faster.

A fascination for Science & Technology and keen interest in the ever-growing world of technology motivated me to take up engineering. The power of research and delivering it for the growth of Society is what makes me interested in the technology side of science. I choose to major Computer science Engineering with an intense urge to delve into this challenging field. During my under graduation program I learned the various fundamentals of Computer science Engineering which together with practical course works reinforced my interest.
Cell phones have immensely changed the way people communicate today. A cell phone can be all a person need for interaction. From a cell phone, a person can make calls, send text messages, emails, and send and also receive directions, buy things online, do online banking, listen to music and much more. Since someone can do everything with one device, there is no longer a need to go around with multiple devices about. Greek hydraulic semaphore systems were used as early as the 4th century. The hydraulic semaphores, which functioned with water filled containers and visual signals, functioned as optical telegraphs. However, they could only apply a very limited range of pre-determined messages, and as with all such visual telegraphs could only be deployed during good visibility conditions. Experiments on communication using electricity was carried out in 1729 but was not successful. The experiment was proposed by William Fothergill Cooke. In 1837, William invented a practical electric telegraph which entered commercial use in 1838 (J. B. Calvert, May 2004). The first telephone was invented in 1878 by Alexander Graham Bell. He experimented with a ‘phonautograph’, it is a machine shaped like a pen that can draw shapes of sound waves on smoked glass by tracing vibrations.
Asking a product of generations of electrical engineering advancements about the history of itself shows just how much the field of electrical engineering has dominated the modern world. According to Wikipedia, the first experiment involving electricity was in 600 B.C.E. by Thales of Miletus. He discovered that static electricity could be made by rubbing fur on various objects. Wikipedia records show that it was not until the 1791 when the first chemical battery was made, 1831 when the infamous Michael Faraday discovered electromagnetic induction, and the 1880’s when alternating current first challenged the standard direct current. These three discoveries alone still dominate the field today and allow our phones to store power, our cars being able to run on electricity, and our currents and wiring to be much more practical. In today’s world technology is found everywhere. For example, in May of 2000 nearly 53% of American adults owned a cellphone, as of April 2015 more than 92% of American adults own a cellphone and the numbers keep growing. As a result of the breakthroughs in electrical engineering dating back over one hundred years, the impact on today’s society is still growing larger than it has ever
Unknown to many, Digital Signal Processing has a broader impact in economic, social, and global categories. In the economic view, digital signal processing generates income and has proved to successfully bring plenty of business for the future; it is where the future is heading. In social context, digital signal processing has enabled us to evolve (and continue to Evolve) with communications to virtually any one in the world. It connects millions around the world, which brings us to the Global aspect. Digital signal processing is relevant due to the fact that it has become a necessity. A lot of people only think cellphones; little do they know digital signal processing is used in everyday life.
I still remember when I immigrated into the U.S; there were so many obstacles I had to face in life and school. All of difficulties, including financial hardship, the barrier of language and culture had a critical impact on my life. However, living in a family with many members who immigrated to U.S long time ago, who are engineers and have a better life just because they point me the effort. Without the effort, you cannot be successful in this country. I have a passion of programming code and building electronic circuits. I always wonder how the IC chip is made and the person who did it has to be so “talented”. I cannot imagine there is billions of a transistor in a tiny IC chip. That inspires me curious to learn more about this field and so I decided to pursue electrical engineer with the focus on VLSI field. I remember my professor told his class that VLSI circuit is everywhere from our computer to cell phone, tablet, and whatever electronic device we are using. That is so impressive statement aspiring me to keep following this field.
Being well acknowledged about the above saying has pushed me a mile further for every aspect of my life. The four year engineering course in Information Technology has always been a beautiful experience and has inspired me to put the knowledge into my Masters degree. This would allow me to enhance my knowledge about technology and its pros and cons and the guidance I would need. Gone are those days when man had to slog for simple works, he has advanced into boundaries which are unimaginable and has made his life easy, being an essential part of such an advancement has always been my motive. To attain my goal, my first priority would be in the field of research which will consist experiencing the applications in the real world steered by comprehensive know-how about technology. Technology has prevailed and casted its spell to parts unknown and now has been imbibed into man.
Today there are many technological advancement to enhance our daily activities, whether it be as simple as an Ipod for entertainment purposes or as vital as an artificial heart for the survival of a human live, science and technology is the reason for its existence.
