How To Write A Good Research Paper

A Research Paper is a type of academic writing that needs more theoretical, significant and methodical level of question. Although a research paper is a kind of term paper, some term papers don’t require academic research. Not all research papers can be considered as term papers. An objective of writing a research paper is to allow people to read the work selectively.

In order to make an impression over the reader, in other words to make a paper readable following some points should be noted:

 Print or type using a 12 point standard font, such as Times, Geneva, Bookman, Helvetica, etc.

 Text should be double spaced on 8 1/2" x 11" paper with 1 inch margins, single sided

 Number the pages consecutively

 Start each new section on a new page

Mistakes that should be strictly avoided:

 Placing a heading at the bottom of a page with the following text on the next page. In this case it is suggested to insert page break.

 Dividing a table or figure - confine each figure/table to a single page

 Submitting a paper with pages out of order

Starting with a research paper firstly comes abstract. The summary should be two hundred words or less. An abstract is a concise, single paragraph summary of work or work in progress. In a minute or less a reader should be able to understand what the complete paper is all about. After summary comes the introduction part which should not exceed more than two pages (double spaced, typed). The main purpose of an introduction is to provide the reader the basic information about the work. • Prepare a Title Page and Table of Contents. The title page should be the first page of the paper. It should include the title of paper, name, and the date on which the paper is due. The table which consists of contents should be the second page. It should list the main topics, important subtopics, and the page on which each is introduced in paper.

• Final Checklist. Before handing in your paper, following few steps should be taken into consideration.

Include a title page.

Include a table of contents.

Number all pages correctly.

Provide appendix for extracts and major sources of all information.

Include a bibliography.

Keep a second copy for personal files.
