Back when my parents were little, it was not uncommon for the wife to stay at home and tend to the housework. Being a housewife requires certain skills for cleaning a house. Three rooms in particular are the kids’ room, the bathroom and the kitchen, all require certain cleaning products, equipment, and processes to clean properly.
If I were to start in my kids’ room, which is upstairs, I would gather all my supplies so I wouldn’t have to make numerous trips up and down the staircase. My list of supplies consists of these items: a vacuum, pledge, a dust cloth, window cleaner, paper towels, a hamper or clothes basket, and some extra energy. I start by picking up all the dirty laundry and placing it in the basket or hamper. I also make sure all toys, trash, clothes or whatever else that has been hidden, is out from under the beds and dressers. If there are any clean clothes on the beds or dressers, I take the time to put them in their place, either in the drawers or neatly hung in the closet. I spray the tops of the wooden surfaces with pledge and polish it in a circular motion into the wood with a dust cloth. I like to use a micro fiber cloth because it attracts the dust particles better than a regular cloth. This makes the surfaces shiny, smooth and clean. After the dressers are done, I polish the television and all the electronics that surround it. The windows are next on the check list. Using the window cleaner, I evenly spray one pane of glass at a time. With a paper towel or two, I scrub the glass, making sure to get into the corners and any spots that may be smudged on the surface. I continue this process on each pane that remains. III. My final room to clean is the kitchen.
A. I will start by loading the dishwasher and getting those out of the way.
B. I will wipe down the counters and put everything back in its place.
C. The stove will need to be sprayed and scrubbed to get the stuck on foods off.
D. My table will need to be polished, since it is wood.
E. Also the windows will need to be cleaned.
F. Finally the floors will be swept and mopped for a clean house!
Hair can become greasy, skin can appear porous and dry, and bodily odours can start to arise. These are caused from a build-up of sweat from the glands within the skin which can lead to an increase in bacteria.
This article talks about the growing movement of hiring maids for household work. This article starts off as being about gender inequality, but then turns into an issue of class and moral standards. The author explains her own experiences of house cleaning. She also describes how “wealthier class’s children are being raised with the attitude”. (Barbara Ehrenreich) That the people that clean up after them are “lower” than everyone else. Additionally she talks about how the hiring of house hold workers will increase and eventually move on to the middle class homes.
Disinfecting toys, surfaces, utensils, and bedding should be part of a regular routine in order to prevent the spread of germs which can cause illness.
Marilynne Robinson does an excellent job of creating different versions of the term housekeeping in this novel. Her characters have lead me to believe that their is not one single definition of what housekeeping is. Concentrate on the inspirational music to get through this challenging process. Hold the toothbrush in the dominant hand and bring it toward the mouth. Place the nondominant hand on the edge of the sink for stability. Without the additional stability, becoming off-balanced from the circling action of brushing is inevitable. Make sure to keep the the bristles of the toothbrush facing towards the teeth; failure to follow this step will result in painful scraping on the teeth. While keeping the teeth clenched together, spread the lips as far apart as possible. Looking like a dog who stuck his head out of the window is unavoidable. Next, place the toothbrush on the teeth. In order to activate the toothpaste, move the brush in tiny circles across every tooth. This will cause the toothpaste to have little bubbles that, mixed with saliva, make a frothy foam. Once every tooth has been properly scrubbed, remove the toothbrush. At this point, the mouth will feel like a chipmunk with it’s mouth full of acorns. To avoid swallowing the toothpaste, forcefully blow the mouth full of foam into the sink. Now the teeth are as clean and shiny as a freshly waxed car. Since the toothpaste is unlikely to follow the rules and stay contained in the mouth, look into the mirror and laugh at the mess of toothpaste dripping from the mouth. The two girls are the best of friends but they are very different, even in the views on how they clean. Sandra is very neat and tidy. Everything must be in its place at all times. Nancy on the other hand is extremely messy. Wherever things happen to land is where they should belong. Sandra cleans her room at least once a day. While Nancy's room is lucky to be cleaned once a month. When Sandra cleans, it is a lengthy procedure. Sometimes she will spend hours just cleaning her room. When Nancy cleans, it is done as quickly as humanly possible. If she can get everything shoved under her bed in five minutes then she is happy. The thought of even sleeping in a messy room makes Sandra extremely uncomfortable. Though Nancy can't stand to be in a spotless room, with out the urge to mess something up.
As she is starting out her article she begins to set the stage with an image in your mind of her own specific event of her being trapped inside her apartment with her husband for thirty-six hours. While his father was going to come over after being trapped inside, she insisted on cleaning up the house even though her husband said his dad didn’t mind the house being messy due to magazines, beef jerky wrappers and empty soup cans. The next thing she does is outline the uneven distribution of cleaning work that is in her own marriage and she suggests to make a chart of who does what chores and dividing up the tasks based on your skill and ability to make it fairer for both parties in the household. She also, suggests to accept a dirtier house since you both are working full time and then coming home after work.
However, studies have shown that fathers could also be housekeepers. According to Glen Sacks, the author of “Stay at home dads” dispute that, “The freedom to switch gender roles has allowed each of us to gravitate toward what we really want in life” (Sacks 266). Despite that society looks at men as the primary breadwinner of the house, people tend to call men unmanly because of changing gender roles. Exchanging gender roles is beneficial for fathers because it gives them an opportunity to experience the responsibility that mothers have traditionally by taking care of the home. In fact, fathers could also be a positive impact in the family because they continue to be the warden of the house. It also gives them the chance to spend time and create a bond with their children. In today’s society it seems as though men don’t really take on their role of being a father. If fathers get the chance to step into their wife’s shoes, it could give them a possible way to understand the role that women have played for so long. Changing gender roles gives mothers the opportunity to find jobs, develop their interpersonal skills and broaden their horizon rather than go by the stereotypical perception which is cleaning the house, cooking or taking the a child to

Gender is defined as the scopes of genetic, physical, mental and behaviour characteristics pertaining to, and differentiating between, masculinity and feminity, meanwhile inequality is defined as in a situation where there is an unfair situation or treatment in which certain people have more privileges or better opportunities or chances than other people. Thus, from the definition stated gender inequality refers to unequal or unfair management, treatment, or perceptions of persons or individuals are based on their gender. In a parallel sense, gender inequality can be said as the world in which there was discrimination against anyone based on gender. In this introductory, the general understanding of gender inequalities will be discussed further into three significant factors that influence the allocation of housework between men and women. Household chores can be classified as cleaning, cooking and paying bills. Division of housework serves as an important element in the continuation of the function of a family and it requires contribution from both spouses (Tang, 2012). However, current society’s perception on housework is based on gender, so the three major factors that influence the division of household chores within the couples are education level, economic resources, and time availability (refer to Figure1 in Appendix 1).
Essentially, spring cleansing is about clearing out the things you don’t use any more, at the same time doing a deep cleaning of the entire house. It's far a time to downsize your house and take on duties that most effective need to be tackled a couple of times a year.
