How Synthetic Hormones, MSG, and Improper Nutrition Effect Our Children

It is imperative to introduce our children to healthy eating habits, nutritional foods, and an active lifestyle. During the progression of this course, I have become captivated with how substantially the goods we ingest affect our overall existence. I always had a deep interest in synthetic hormones and byproducts. I decided to write my paper on how synthetic hormones and improper nutrition upset our children’s health. I decided to research the bad products our food companies place in our food without our proper and complete knowledge. We all have to eat to live, yet it is important to know what we are eating. Kimura, A. believes that “the use of steroid hormones for growth promotion in food producing animals has been widely controversial”. (2005). To begin, I will take us back to the beginning. My research brought me all the way back to the 1930s, when farmers and scientists started experimenting with the first animal growth hormone Bovine or (bGH). By injecting a dairy cow with this hormone, it would begin producing more milk. Technology was not as well advanced to mass produce this hormone for the enormous demand until the after World War II. The advanced form of (bGH) is (rbGH), and scientists have acknowledged that (rbGH) is not recognized by human cells. At that point the advancement of serving the hormone Estrogen to cattle was introduced. These steroids are still used to speed up the young mammal’s growth time and increasing weight while reducing the amount of feed the animal needs to consume. Then in 1948, Monosodium Glutamate or (MSG) was introduced to the United States through the Japanese Army, when they noticed they could feed the soldiers smaller rations.
