What exactly are sports? The answer to this question is simple. Sports are activities that people utilize to compete with each other and to have fun. Sports have been around since man has been on earth. They keep people active and give them something to do when there is nothing else. There are many types of sports. These involve different materials and rules that one needs to follow in order to complete the objectives. In sports, there are many different aspects to consider. In addition, the contestants have many needs which have to be met in order to perform at the highest level. This essay will skim the surface of detailing facts regarding a small fraction of sports that have been played throughout history. Some of the earliest sports ever competed in were probably some of the simplest ever invented. A few examples would include: footraces, wrestling, and boxing. The reason that these sports are really simple is because they don't require any elaborate equipment or extra usage of anything besides the human body. This simplicity made it possible for almost anyone to compete in them, regardless of their financial situation. These sports had no discrimination associated with them because the participant didn't have to pay any money. Thus, even the poorest of the poor could participate in the enjoyment of the activity. Many boys would spend most of their time racing and competing to see who was the best. It is said that a Roman boy’s ultimate dream was to be the fastest racer and compete in the Colosseum. The Colosseum was where many events would occur, including sporting endeavors. One of these events was called the Funeral Games. The Funeral Games were done in honor of the famously deceased.
