High School Should be Permitted to Have Open Campus Lunch

French students get 1 ½-2 hour lunch breaks, and many countries including France have off-campus lunch programs, where they can go home or to a restaurant for lunch. Why can’t Oak Creek High School have off-campus lunch? By the time students are in high school, they should be responsible and trusted to have off-campus lunch privileges. To begin, the high school principles and the school district can put restrictions on who’s allowed to leave the campus for lunch. The student’s parents make the ultimate decision of whether they will allow their child to go off-campus for lunch. In order for students to go off-campus, they will need to have a written consent slip filled out by their parents and handed in to the office, as well as a pass when leaving campus. The students who are continuously tardy or absent should not be allowed to have this privilege. If the students are allowed to have off-campus lunch, so should the staff members. Although they’re staff they shouldn’t be treated any different, they should at least have a pass for leaving campus. Most importantly the students of Oak Creek High School should be at least 16 years of age, and must have good grades with a GPA of at least 2.8 or higher. Plus the school resource officers (SRO) may stop and question the students, at any time. Also if Oak Creek High School has off-campus lunch, the school would save more money. By letting the student body have an open campus lunch, the school would be required to spend less money for clean up supplies, equipment, and for maintaining the cafeteria. The less that’s spent and the more that’s saved will allow more money to be available. There could be more money for extra-curricular activities, sports, and clubs. The school would then be held responsible and the parents of that individual could place a law suit on the high school. Most students would love to have off-campus lunch, just like many other students at other schools or in other countries do. If the other schools in the country offer an open-campus lunch, why can’t the Oak Creek High School student body also have an open-campus lunch? With certain restrictions, policies, and rules set, the student body and faculty of Oak Creek High School should be allowed the privilege of an open-campus lunch program. So if the student body is responsible and capable of handling these privileges, why can’t the Oak Creek High School student body and faculty also have an open-campus lunch?
