In the novel Hate List Valerie Leftman starts dating a guy named Nick, she feels that he makes her whole life better and she loves how he helps her by distracting her from her parents struggling marriage. One day after being called mean names repeatedly she decides she is going to start a hate list, this list consists of people and things she absolutely hate. When Nick sees it he starts helping her put names on it, soon all Nick and Valerie are talking about is the list and how they want those people dead. But unlike Valerie, Nick actually has intentions of killing those people. One day Nick walks into the school and starts shooting all the people he can find that ate on their list. When Valerie sees this she tries to stop him and jumps in front of the gun and she gets shot, after Valerie did that Nick shoots himself in the head immediately ending his life. Valerie struggles to come to terms with the fact that Nick was not the great guy she thought he was. At the end of the book she and her newly found friend Jessica Campbell have a memorial for all the deaths, and Valerie is finally...

Duncan decides to make amends for his failure last summer by tracking down the owner of the journal by using clues left hidden in the diary. After talking with his friend Vinny, Duncan decides to turn the journal over to the police, but they do not take him seriously, so he decides to get help from Vinny, do some research at the local library, and find out where the killer works and lives so they can prove to the police the diary is for real. But in the process when Duncan finds the house of the serial killer, he decides to take a look in it but unfortunately at that very time the serial killer appears and chases Duncan to the subway station. They get into fight there and they both fell on the subway tracks in the station where they get hit by the train. Duncan luckily survives but the serial killer dies.

The most responsibility he had was being a traffic officer and save children from getting hit by passing cars as they crossed the street. What baffles Ron Powers is what has happened to today’s youth, what has changed in the way children are raised these days that create this loss of innocence, which is why he set out to try and find out what happened through interviews in Hannibal. I feel he successfully expresses his ideals on society through memories of his own compared to the two recent murders and everything he finds out through the interviewing.
