Gun Control: The Opposing Viewpoints

Gun control is an issue that is constantly being debated. There are people who are pro gun control and those who believe gun control is unconstitutional to the citizens. Many political leaders and organizations have strong opinions on gun control, which keeps the gun control debate publicized. Gun control is limiting or taking the right of citizens to carry or purchase a gun. Guns are used for protecting the citizens by police officers and the military, as well as for many personal reasons like hunting and self-defense. There are times that guns are used for the wrong reasons like murder, or put in the wrong hands which lead to accidental deaths. Choosing a stand on gun control can be hard, but hearing both sides can help a person make a decision.

Two strong organizations in the U.S. have opposing views on gun control; each of which have great politicians. The National Rifle Association (NRA) is against gun control, as The Brady Center is fighting for gun control. Sarah Palin, former government of Alaska, is an NRA advocate that believes that gun control is taking the right of the citizens in which the 2nd amendment has given them. The 2nd amendment states, “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a Free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed” (Constitution). Palin believes that it is unconstitutional for gun control laws, and these laws will take away the citizens privilege of hunting and self-defense. Palin stated, “I support our Constitutional right to bear arms and am a proponent of gun safety programs for Alaska's youth," adding "I have always strongly supported the personal use of fish and game by Alaskans.
