One of many controversial topics in the United States is gun control. It is clearly written in the Second Amendment of the Constitution that the people will have the right to bear arms. Recently; however, people have been misusing those firearms and have been harming others with them. The government is trying to regulate the sale, distribution, and ownership of guns because of this reason. Some of the arguments being made by the politicians is simply if the government has the right to be able to control, and if it does, the effectiveness of the public policy to regulate guns.
The importance of gun control as a health issue is a necessity. “Each year, the United States has a bit over 8,000 murders with firearms” (Wilblin 1) “The US suicide rate is 12 per 100,000, and half of those suicides are due to firearms” (Wilblin 1) Firearms have begun to take the lives of numerous people. By regulating the gun control individuals have, the government could potentially be saving many lives. Thinking of all of the recent disasters that have happened, Virginia Tech, Aurora CO, Tucson AZ, a possibility have averted all of these tragic event with a stricter gun policy. The number of lives that have been taken because of an individual using a firearm is endless. No matter the type of firearm being used, these weapons are not a necessity.
Having a concealed carry license means that the shooter may be able to have the advantage of surprising the victim, all due to the fact the weapon is out of eyesight. For this reason, firearms are more dangerous than they normally would be considered. Open carry is a policy that that allows a loaded gun to be carried in public, assuming it is holstered away. “Guns are OK as well, as long as they are placed in ...

Recently, the government has started to put more of an emphasis on the lack of gun laws in place. They have passed certain laws that require background checks for a person to become licensed to carry a gun legally, but this has brought up a huge controversy on the idea of gun control. The two sides are arguing about how the government should handle gun control. The first side states that the United States should be cracking down and putting various laws making it almost impossible for a gun to end up in the hands of a criminal, and the other side states that anyone can find a way to receive a firearm with the intent to harm a population. If the second side was true, the United States
People against gun control feel that it is a violation of the Constitution to control the sale and distribution and the registration of guns and gun owners (Band, The Editorial 2) . But it is necessary for there to be certain limits on the way that firearms are handled in this country because of the homicide rate involving guns, and because of the violence created by criminals using guns. If gun control legislation were to go through; there would be a significant decline in gun related crimes and fatalities (Sowell 2). Gun control should be control in this society, and laws should be enforced. Gun violence, protection, and safety and fall into this category. The laws should protect people’s safety and also people’s self-defense. I do believe that gun control has a big impact on society because of: gun violence, gun laws, and people’s protection (Sowell
We have had gun control laws in the past. We thought that they would help the crime and murder rate decrease, but that was not the case. The crime and murder rate stayed the same, so we took away the laws. 11% of killing is from stabbing in Chicago. It was proven that if we took away guns all together then the 11% would increase rapidly. We need guns for protection more than anything. The police cannot protect us in every situation. We need to be able to defend and protect ourselves. (_Esmarttips. "Gun Control Arguments, Pro & Con." Smart Tips. N.p., n.d. Web. 02 May 2017).
On a cold night in December, Linda, a cutthroat investment banker, was walking home late at night from her luxurious office in Houston, Texas. The night was Christmas Eve, but Linda had to work late to finish up a big deal she was closing. It was lightly snowing outside, and as Linda liked snow, she decided walking the short distance to her apartment rather than driving would be relaxing. Her husband and two children were eagerly awaiting her arrival to spend Christmas Eve together as a family. As Linda was walking, she began to have the strange feeling that someone was following her. As she looked behind her, there was one man walking a few hundred feet back on the otherwise empty sidewalk. This frightened Linda a little, and she quickened her pace slightly. The man followed suit, increasing the speed at which he was following the nervous woman. Linda wasn’t quite sure what to do; this had never happened to her before. She turned around a second time, and felt a wave of horror pass over her as she saw the mans face, dark and fierce. She also saw something in his gloved right hand, long, silver, and shining dully in the dim streetlights. Linda knew that the object was indeed a knife, and now realized that she was in serious trouble. As she rounded a street corner, she began to sprint. The mysterious man rounded the corner, looking down, and saw a pair of high heels laying in the middle of the sidewalk. As he looked up, he saw Linda running as fast as she could, her bare feet kicking up snow. The man took off after her, furious that he had let her gain so much distance between them. Linda tried to open her purse in order to use
When it comes to controversial topics in today’s society, there are so many that it can be difficult to be a straight shooter. Among all of them, however, debate over gun control has been prevalent for so long, it is something many people can easily set their sights on. It is an issue everybody should have an opinion on, as it is vastly important, potentially threatening, and all too present in modern society. Many find the mere concept of gun control invasive to their constitutional rights, while others see lack of gun control to be astoundingly dangerous and entirely chimerical. Protection of oneself and their rights may or may not be more important than hundreds of lives lost potentially due to fairly unrestricted gun ownership. The mere question would bring many to ear-shattering debate, and for good reason. Screams of constitutional neglect and of humanistic lethargy would likely be heard miles away. This debate would be very much on target though, as there are many valid points from either side and it is a topic that must be thought out very carefully to avoid potential catastrophe. Recent events leading to deaths of many American citizens enough to dictate the need for stricter gun control, although such action may really be meaningless and infringe upon the core rights established by the country’s founders themselves, meaning some values of gun control may help, but ultimately it is a futile attempt.
Gun control had been a phenomenal issue in our country. In December 15, 1791 the second amendment established in the top ten amendments in the Constitution by James Madison. The amendment stated that people have a rights to bear arm to protect themself, their loved ones and their property. To legally get a gun you have to be 21 years old and over, without any criminal history nor committed in any mental institution then you need to apply for it and got a handgun safety test. After the whole process you can purchase a firearm easily. The whole purpose of the amendment was for self-defense but now people been taking advantage of it and use it for violence. Throughout the years there was so many times people use it to killed and harmed other instead of protecting. They used firearm for the wrong purpose and it affected a lot of other people. I believe our government need to have strict laws and more requirements to be able to own a firearm. It’s true that our current laws prevent certain people from getting a firearm but it did not complete stopping them from having an access to a firearm and use it to do something awful. In 2011, due to record US have 12,664 murders and 8,583 were caused by firearms which mean 68% out of 100. Firearm is one of the most quickest and dangerous weapons out there. If our government do not taking action soon there will ...
Law-abiding citizens should have the right to protect themselves against danger. One way citizens can protect themselves is through concealed carry permits. A concealed carry permit allows the permit holder to carry a gun (concealed) in most public places. If an applicant meets a set of requirements, a concealed carry permit is issued. These requirements may consist of a licensing fee, safety training course, fingerprinting, a clean record and no history of mental illness. This is also known as “shall-issue” laws. Thirty-two states have enacted "shall-issue" concealed carry laws (New Mexico being the most recent in April 2001), and one state, Vermont, does not require any permit of its residents....
Americans participated in a great debate through the 60's, 70's, 80's, and into the 90's. It is the argument of whether handguns, shotguns, and rifles should be restricted or banned. This debate over ownership of a firearm has produced strong emotions through the past years and does not seem to be abating. Does the U.S. Constitution give people the right, or should guns be restricted or banned because they are used in the commission of many crimes? Some argue that the right to bear arms is not as vital today as it was in the 1700's, or that it does not apply to individuals. Others argue that it is an individual right guaranteed by the Constitution to own a firearm.
Is the right to bare arms worth the amount of deaths and injuries in the United States? Gun Control has been a heavily debated and controversial topic throughout the United States. In 2013, 30,000 people died of gunshot wounds in America. After the prohibition of the “Gun Control Act of 1968,” there was a massive increase in homicide and suicide. Because there are so many shootings and unnecessary death today everywhere in the United States because of guns, the nation should adopt a universal gun control system enforcing stricter gun control laws, including background checks and permits.
In the wake of all the school shootings in the past fifteen years gun control has become a more serious issue than before. Gun control has always been a concern in the United States, but not until the first major school shootings at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado did this topic become a reality to the American public. In 1999, this massacre left fifteen people dead including the assassins. And just recently on March 5, 2001 did the tradition continue, when Charles Andrew Williams killed two classmates, leaving many injured in Santee California.
News is all around us and is readily available to everyone. There are many flaws in the system that hurts the authenticity of the news when you see it. The media is indirectly part of the political system. Most news is either considered liberal or conservative by many.
Since the early days, gun control has been a never-ending debate. It is because of the fast increase in crime, the fight for the right to own a hand gun, the introduction of legislation for gun control in order reduce the crime in the United States, that this issue has been hotly debated in recent years. The streets of America are now a war zone especially right here were we live. ?Florida has the highest crime rate of any state and the sixth highest homicide level?(www.guncite.com). A sad fact but true. Many people feel that gun control violates their right to own a gun the second amendment says so: ?the right to bear arms?. I personally share that point of view for it would not be in the constitution to begin with. However, there is no doubt that something must be done in order to reduce violence and to make America a freer country to live in. I believe that gun control should not take place for it does not reduce crime, it only increases the debates and as an alternative there should be a stronger education.
If there was no gun control, then the rates of gun deaths might easily skyrocket. An example of why gun control is essential is when one considers the various instances of a mass shooting. Whenever gun related crimes happen, such as the shooting of cops, black people, or a mass shooting in schools, the country turns into national mourning, meaning that this has an effect on all Americans. The laws as they are now, and some of those that have been proposed, do not have sufficient guidelines in place to prevent such gun related deaths. Certainly, there is a need for more restrictive laws, and arguments for further restriction include societal needs, the increasing rates of the gun-related violence as well as death, questions of availability and
handguns. I think this couldn’t be more wrong in actuality lots of crimes are committed
It’s a fact that more guns equal more deaths even if the firearm is legal. Between 1982 and 2012, in the US, there were roughly sixty-two mass shootings. This is an enormous number. The sad thing is that forty-nine of these shootings were made using a legal firearm. Banning guns would automatically make them harder for people with bad intentions to acquire them, the result would be less deaths.
