Criminals are running around with illegal guns. So we are not able to find the guns and the murder weapons. Their should not be able to get the gun at all but their find ways. This need addressing because if we do not address the problem, it will just get worse and more people will die from are mistaken. The worse it gets, the more people that die from this. People should not have to worry about the criminals who were in jail, having guns and what they would be doing with them. Gun control laws should stop criminals not law abiding citizens. Everyone wants to own a gun, but some people cannot like criminals. Their need to get there on the black market. The black market is how people get gun under the radar. It is normally in regular gun stores and they do not do background checks, fill out the paperwork or go to the classes. There are a lot of school shooting and people being shot for no reason. It crazy how someone can leave the house in the morning and not come back at night. According to David Lester in his article Police Officers Killed and The Guns Used by Criminals “It may be that criminals who are more likely to kill police officers utilize different types of gun than do criminals who are unlikely to kill police officers” (Par.4). Their should not even have guns. If they did not have the guns, then they would not have killed the police and then maybe they could have caught some more criminals and we would not be having this problem right now. Also, we would be able to have other crimes solved because the police are still alive and not dying for the bad guys. So you see if we cut down on the black market, then they would not be able to get guns and they will not be able to shoot the police. The problem here arises that the gun itself cannot kill people, but the people who own it to use it as a weapon to kill another person. In addition, not all gun owners are criminals, so the confiscation of guns is not the optimal solution. In the essay “Just Take Away Their Guns”, James Q. Wilson said “There are some 200 million guns in private ownership, about one-third of them handguns. Only about 2 percent of the latter are employed to commit crimes” (Wilson). That means for every 100 people owning guns, only 2 people use it to perform criminal acts. Not all gun owners are criminals, the majority of people own guns for self-defense purpose. Therefore, the most important thing that the government needs to do is to closely manage the buying / selling guns rather than just take them away from people. If a person wants to buy a gun, he or she needs to have a background checked, provide an appropriate reason to buy it. On the other hand, the police should reward to anyone who discover the illegal use of firearms. For the past twelve years, police department data shows that officer made more than five million stop, but the number of illegal guns were found only 0.02 percent (Badger). Also, shootings aren’t decreasing by nearly enough to justify the increase in stops and frisks. From 2002, shootings in New York City have only decreased by 3.9% (Policy

Imagine you are woken up to a noise in your home at 2:00 a.m. An intruder has broken into your home and is armed with an illegally obtained handgun. Guns are outlawed where you live, so you have no way to defend yourself. A call to the police might work, but the police are ten minutes away. In this situation, ten minutes could mean life or death for you and your family. What are you going to do? You do not have very many options. Banning guns is a very illogical idea because not all murders involve guns, guns are used for recreation and hunting, and criminals do not obey laws. Gun control laws have been starting to become more prominent in American culture as a result of the increase in the number of mass shootings around the country. These laws do not necessarily decrease the murder rate, and in some cases, banning guns has resulted in the murder rate increasing, which defeats the whole purpose of the gun ban.
Guns and crime seem to fit together like peanut butter and jelly, but is that really the case? There are two ways to look at gun control, but one realization that needs to be made and that’s that guns are powerful. Guns can either be used for defending and protecting people or they can be used to harm and kill people. People have different views on whether guns are being used for protection or being used to harm and kill others. The majority of people that think guns are being used for safety and defense oppose gun control laws. On the other hand the majority of people who think guns are being used to heartlessly slaughtered people are for stricter gun control laws. People opposed to gun control thinking it will be taking away some of their rights; whereas, those in favor of gun control thinking it will help protect people.
