I am interested in pursuing a second master’s degree because I found a career path that I am very passionate about. I have strategically aligned myself with the right combination of education and experience to develop and grow my career as a Human Resources (HR) professional and this strategy has been the key to my current success. Applying to the Masters of Professional Studies (MPS) Human Resources Management (HRM) program is the next step in becoming even more successful within my field because I plan to work as a Vice President of International Development and Workforce Planning. I believe Yale is a fit for my career goals because with a concentration in International HR the core courses offered in the program will help me improve my strategic thinking and theoretical experiences that will overflow into my practical experience. My academic experience includes State University as well as University of Phoenix. However, my experience at Phoenix earned me an MBA with a 3.61 GPA and I believe this experience proves my ability to survive a rigorous master’s degree program. It was an intense weekly program with weekly presentations, papers and extensive reading. The intensity of the program challenged my intellect and abilities and it was great preparation for Yale’s MPS program. Attending Yale will require the ability to multi-task coupled with hard work, determination and drive. I have loved government and policy since I was a government relations intern in Florida. Towards the end of my undergraduate education I was offered an internship with the Department of State in Washington, DC and I knew that no other city would provide me with the opportunity experience so many facets of government in a central location. Since my move to DC I have been able to flourish and grow my career in government relations and contracting. I have worked for various agencies and federal offices in a variety of capabilities. The more I worked the more I loved what I saw as the endless possibilities of my careers. My desire to grow my career, and seek out management opportunities, led me to explore graduate schools and I set my view on American University (AU).

When I first enrolled here at State University, I never thought I would ever be in the position to graduate. Finishing college was a huge goal growing up but it was also my biggest fear. But after three and a half years of dedication I plan to get my degree in the fall. Getting this far in college was not easy, it took encouragement from family, dedication, and assistance from others to reach this position.
After almost three years at Bernstein, I am once again seeking career advancement. My education and work experience have provided me with an excellent introduction to business, and they have sparked my interest in finance. Taking into consideration my foundation and my interests, graduate business school is the next logical step. At this point in my life, I consider a Wharton MBA to be necessary since I need to gain a broader understanding of finance and to sharpen my analytical skills in order to be successful in corporate finance. Wharton's MBA program will allow me to concentrate in finance, strengthen my global business perspective, and provide me with the opportunity to study with and learn from people with varied backgrounds. The school's location in the financial capital of the world and in one of the most diverse cities in the world also suits me perfectly.
The decision for me to become an industrial relations major was not really my own, I have to admit. My uncle, a human resource manager with Welch-Allyn, spent the majority of every holiday gathering throughout my senior year of high school trying to dissuade me from becoming a business major. He would tell me, "This is a rare undergraduate degree and a growing field." Then he would frighten me by saying, "We have very similar personalities, so you would be a fantastic H.R. manager." Eventually he convinced me that it was my best option. And I haven't regretted it.
My interest in the University of Tulsa is strengthened by the required practicum and field experience, as well as, excellent faculty and facilities. I intend to pursue a career in applied research and organizational consulting, therefore, these qualities are imperative to myself and my career.
My academic background consists of two phases. My first college attempt, 1997-2002, was unsuccessful due largely to distraction caused by my father’s illness. The second phase started in 2009 with a new major, Consumer Economics, which better suited my interests. I was able to narrow the scope of my degree further and focused on policy creation, analysis, and implementation. During this phase, I earned a 3.7 GPA while working full-time at the University of Georgia. Although it took longer than normal to complete my undergraduate education, it is to date my greatest success; however, my educational growth is not finished. I have goals and ambitions that inspire me to continue onward until I am in possession of my graduate degree. My journey to a college education has been filled with experiences that have stunted but not stopped my growth. I am confident that, come what may, I will accomplish the goals that I’ve set. It is this perseverance that qualifies me as an excellent candidate for the Master’s in Public Administration at Columbus State University.
