As a member of the National Rural Electric Company I am presenting to you the idea of cutting off the carbon dioxide limitations is not the brightest of decisions. It will change the world as we know it. Over the past few years record-breaking and extreme weather events including sweltering summers, super-storms, wildfires and shrinking icecaps, alongside the acidifying of the oceans has been the topic of discussion. In Missouri this winter we have seen more snow, extreme freezing temperatures, and then day’s later 60 degree weather just to start over again. Who or what is responsible for these record breaking events and climate changes? Scientists such as Richard Heede would like to persuade you to believe through his research in Tracing anthropogenic carbon dioxide and methane emissions to fossil fuel and cement producers (greenhouse gas producers)it is all the fault of cumulative emissions dating back to the Industrial Revolution. If you read his research, you will find the word “estimate” or “estimated” used throughout when referring to the emissions. Exactly why are global warming advocates so concerned about fossil fuel burning and CO2 emissions? We have to keep in mind most global warming advocates are evolutionists who do not believe in creationism. God, in the Bible, has provided much more than a lack of creation care concepts as an explanation to global warming. While the Bible does not use the verbiage “global warming” it does provide a framework to evaluate the global warming claims. In Genesis 1:1 we are told God created the heavens and the earth at which point the atmosphere could have been created, but definitely by Day 2 the atmosphere was created when he separated the water which was below the expanse from... ... middle of paper ... ...hrough the roof due the passing of unnecessary regulations. The new regulations will force many coal plants to shut down leaving hundreds of unemployed people. Coal is our biggest source of electricity. It has been used as a very important energy source since the Industrial Revolution of the 1800s. In Missouri we depend on coal for more than 60% of our electricity. In conclusion, there is no viable justification Biblically or scientifically to limit the carbon dioxide emissions. Based on this, it is absolutely unnecessary to spend millions of dollars to limit something God created and something he deemed necessary to the survival of plant life and mankind. We as nation are in debt spending more money we do not have is not the greatest idea either. As well we have been using coal for over 200 years for electricity; it has worked this long why not keeping using it.
In Genesis, god created merely by speaking. It was god who created the heavens and earth also known as cosmos. Water was already pre-existent matter; everything else was created by god. It all began when god spoke in the darkness and said let there be light and there was light. God saw that the light was good. During the day there would be light, and the darkness would be at night. By the second and third day, god created a firmament (dome) which separated the waters from the waters. God called the firmament heaven and said that all the waters under heaven should be gathered as one allowing for dry land to appear. This created one place for the water and another place for dry land. It was the dry land that beca...
The issue presented in this paper is how one can aim to reduce the amounts released, and what the best ways to solve this problem are. This has been long debated amongst scientists, businessmen, Industry-owners, and politicians amongst many other eminent figures in society. The four major approaches to reducing carbon dioxide in the atmosphere include: subsidies of alternative energy, cap and trade, carbon taxes, and command and control regulation. We will examine and compare the effectiveness of two of these methods: The carb...
“In the beginning when God created the heavens and the earth” (Genesis 1:1). This section of a verse from the NRSV started the grand story of the bible. In the beginning the Bible brings two things to focus. The two things that are focused on is the setting and the main characters of the Bible (Professor Smallbones). The Bible opens in Genesis 1 with God creating. God creates light, the earth, the sun, living creatures, and many other things, but most importantly God creates humans. As God is the main character in the grand story he immediately forms a personal relationship with man and woman. God created Adam the first man and Eve the first woman. In the book, The Unfolding Drama of The Bible, Anderson says, “The
The industrial world in earth contributes carbon dioxide by burning fossil fuels in factories.Fossil fuels give out carbon dioxide when burned and trees are cut down which also gives out carbon dioxide as plants absorb carbon dioxide. The vehicles that we use also gives out nitrous oxide when being driven. Animals like cows give out methane which is also a greenhouse gas. The gas is produced as much as 30 billion metric tons or more every year. People make their own needs and don’t know that they are killing the earth day by day. They make more factories, burn and use more and more fossil fuels. The earth’s use of coal, oil, petroleum, natural gas are increasing more and more. Coal is the ...
Today, some scientists are skeptical about the consensus on climate change. This can be compared to a situation in ancient times, where the majority of people believed the earth was flat, and only a minority dared to question that consensus. These challengers note that something not known is how much does the earth’s atmosphere respond to added carbon dioxide (McNider and Christy). This means that no one has any idea of what CO2 levels did to the earth’s climate before meaningful history. So, as many sci...
In order to understand what the countries are talking about, one would have to know why the earth is warming and what exactly is causing it. Greenhouse gasses are what is causing the earth to retain more heat. Greenhouse gasses ?that have increased over the industrial period are carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), nitrous oxide (N20), and chlorofluorocarbons CFC-11.? (2-453) The increase in these gases has caused global warming and it continues to rise today. Factory smoke stacks, car emissions, forests burning, and energy usage that burn fossil fuels produce the highest percentage of the gasses that harm the Earth and continue our warming trend. (5-1) For example, the United States, for the nine month period of January to November 2000, ?had the warmest nine month period since records began in 1895.? because we use the most fossil fuels and put out the most greenhouse gasses (6-1). This was all caused by the growing industrial age that we live in today.
Coal companies have been destroying our mountains, polluting our water, and poisoning our communities for far too long.
This paper will discuss the environmental crisis of climate change. Included will be what climate change is and how it’s affecting the planet. The human spirit is an amazing thing that can withstand many obstacles this paper will discuss the affect climate change is having on the human spirit and how religion can help combat climate change through the awareness of ethical values. Climate change is something that’s occurring right now and the effects will take the planet thousands of years to recover so its critical that action is taken now to ensure a sustainable planet for future generations. Human spirit and the voice of religion may be the key to solving the climate change problem.
There are many causes and consequences of climate change discussed throughout this Encyclical. One of the most important would be the extreme weather. “In recent decades this warming has been accompanied by a constant rise in the sea level and, it would appear, by an increase of extreme weather events, even if a scientifically determined cause
One may think that what do people have to do with global warming? Humans are reproducing at a faster rate than the earth can reproduce. The more people on earth the more houses ' and wood that is needed. This means that humans need to cut one of the earth 's most important body organ, the lung. Trees take years to grow, but humans are cutting them down by acres. According to Al Gore, "trees are the earth 's lungs as they absorb co2 from the atmosphere". If people damage the earth 's lungs and close the ventilation soon the earth will be a hot unpleasant place to live in. The earth was created for humans to enjoy and not destroy. People need to start to open there eyes, and start to try an make a change with a simple act as
Thesis statement: The global warming and the resultant climatic change is due to uncontrolled human exploitation of earth and its resources thereby emitting large volumes of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.
Imagine? One day you wake up and all you can see and smell is smoke. Do you think this will be good for you? Good for our planet?. However, even though some people believe greenhouse gases have nothing to do with climate change, people should take more responsibility for the planet because the deforestation of land and the burning of fossil fuels is the principle cause of climate change. The warming that is evident is the instrumental temperature record is consistent with a wide range of observations, as documented by many independent scientific groups. The climate system can warm or cool in response to changes in external forces. Therefore, some scientist say that human generated greenhouse gas emission is too small to substantially change
The burning of fossil fuels has greatly harmed our environment and is a leading cause as to why climate change has become such a threat to our way of living. In May of 2013, the carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere reached 400 parts per million, an increase of more than 40 percent since the beginning of the Industrial Revolution. This could cause the Arctic Ocean to be nearly ice-free during the summer by 2020(Overland and Wang, 2013).
“There’s one reason that never goes away, one evergreen excuse not to act: “you’re a hypocrite”” (McKibben, 669). Although most public transportation consumes gasoline, taking the train is still a better option, rather than driving a car every day that runs on fuel. Furthermore, solar panels being installed on a roof, is a better option than doing nothing at all. To add, solar panels will save so much money on someone’s ComEd bill and electric bill. Solar panels are a great investment for saving money and for helping the planet. A hypocrite is someone who would complains about how the CO2 is destroying the planet, but this hypocrite doesn’t do anything about it. It is extremely hard to replace fossil fuel because this whole world runs on it. A person who is recycling and using less energy is a better person, than a person who doesn’t do anything at all. It is not being a hypocrite when a person uses less energy but still uses fossil fuel. It is impossible to not use fossil fuel in this country, unless a person goes off into the forest and lives there forever. “I’m fully embedded in the world that fossil fuel has made, that from the moment I wake up, almost every action I take somehow burns coal and oil” (McKibben, 669-670). McKibben says, that almost anything we do burns fossil fuel. We can’t just change individuals to become eco-friendly, but we have to change the whole system. The whole
Fuels like coal, and oil that once were a fine innovation in creating energy are now rapidly deleting and one day will be gone forever; energy that won’t last is often referred to as non-renewable energy. Besides being set up to fail and become inefficient in the future, fossil fuel energy is not clean to use and poses several environmental complications. Coal, for instance is “the dirtiest of all fossil fuels. Coal combustion not only produces sulfur oxides and nitrogen oxides that contribute to acid rain and snow, it generates millions of tons of particulates that cause asthma and other respiratory diseases.” As with all usage of fossil fuels, it creates enormous amounts of carbon dioxide, which contributes to greenhouse gas. Not only are fossil fuels dirty, they also pose as a security risk and unforgiving on the American wallet. (Saini)
