GOING GREEN BY RECYCLING
Have you ever wanted to help the environment but you just didn’t know how? If you have, there are several easy ways that you can go green and still help the environment. What does it mean to “go green?” It means to make choices that reduce, minimize, or even attempt to reverse the negative impact of our actions on earth and its resources. Also, to find ways to preclude human actions that contribute to the extinction of rare plants, and animals. Going Green also means to recycle and find innovative ways to release the most common e-waste such as computers, televisions, telephones, VCRs, stereos, copiers, and fax machines. In addition, going green means addressing the causes of global warming and what can be done to maintain Earth’s average temperature for near- surface locations.
One of the ways you can go green is by recycling. For instance, by recycling newspapers you are helping the earth because these newspapers are recycled to form new materials such as paper, cereal boxes, egg cartons, and tissue paper. Just by recycling some newspapers, many trees are prevented from being killed. You can also recycle soda cans and bottles at your local recycling center and receive money in return. You not only help the environment by going green but you benefit from it also. Some more recyclable materials are plastic cups, cardboard, cereal boxes, shoeboxes, and milk cartons. If you are not sure whether an item is a recyclable or not, you can always check for a triangular shaped symbol that is usually located on the bottom of an item.

If one person starts to reduce, reuse, and recycle their waste, then by observing their behaviors, others will follow the same path. It is possible for one person to change an entire planet.
Recycling is defined as the process of the collecting and the processing of materials (materials that on many occasions thrown away) ,and then shaving them into fresh commodities and turning them into new products. Recycling is important to the world today due to new technologies and new products constantly being devised. Without recycling Earth would plausibly end up as a planet of waste , a scenario depicted in the Disney Pixar movie ,Wall-E. Barlaz says, “Recycling still causes some emissions” (62). However recycling starts at home with the consumer. When people go out to buy groceries, clothes, food or any other things they should think about the purchases before they buy them. Consumers buy groceries but they chose to use plastic or paper bags. Instead of using those they could use reusable cloth bags. Some people would rather use the plastic or paper bags. If they do then they should recycle those bags instead of just throwing them away in the garbage and hoping they get in the recycling area. Recycling cans and glass jars saves energy needed to make new ones. People can save energy by recycling other things like paper and plastic. Humes says, “Recycling aluminum cans saves ninety-six percent of the energy needed to produce aluminum from bauxite ore” (260). Also, “recycling the glass jars and bottles saves twenty-one percent of the energy needed to make new glass” (260). So if everyone could start recycling their cans, glass, paper and plastic that would save us a lot of energy that would need to be used to make new ones. If we can start recycling at home that will make things much easier on the waste management plants and our world. If people don’t want to recycle at their homes and separate everything they can just put all their trash in the can and it will eventually be separated and recycled. The words ‘Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle’ are what a person chants if someone mentions the word recycling. Nicks J defines recycling as ‘[T]he processing of waste materials in order to make them reusable” (11). Individuals who recycle are not just throwing papers in green bins, or cans in blue; in fact, they are helping the environment more than they can imagine. People who want to preserve and protect their planet take the initiative to recycle waste materials. Rather than throwing away old plastic or glass bottles, aluminum cans, and certain types of paper, one can simply recycle them, and they will go through a cleaning and the remanufacturing process to be remade into a new usable item.
In conclusion, the impact I personally have on the planet has surprised me. My personal ecological footprint is much larger than I expected. However, there are measures I can take to drop my current consumption rate, such as altering my recycling choices, making better purchasing decisions, and adopting the reduce, reuse, and recycle concept throughout my household. By altering my habits and consumption rate, I can affect my local community tremendously in a positive way for the planet Earth.
But it’s not that simple. Becoming eco-friendly is more than just being “friendly” to the environment- even Rinkesh agrees that “being eco-friendly goes far beyond just turning off lights when you leave the room or separating your garbage for recycling – it is about changing the purpose of how you live.” (2016) Although a lot of human waste goes to landfills there is now a way to use this trash and turn it into energy, based on the information given by “How landfills benefit society” (2013) this statement is true. One must change his/her habits with how they dispose of waste and how they use natural resources. Every human needs to become eco-friendly to help better the future and ensure that life will be sustainable on earth in many years to come.
