Earth is our one and only home. Without it, life as we know it would not be sustainable. We, this current generation and the previous generation, have seemed to take for granted the fragile nature of the Earth. These generations have done this because they have done very little to nothing to fix the problem of global warming. More often than not, people are ignorant of the global warming situation because they know nothing about global warming and its effects on the planet. What is global warming? Global warming can be defined as “an increase in the earth's atmospheric and oceanic temperatures widely predicted to occur due to an increase in the greenhouse effect resulting especially from pollution” (“Global Warming”). This greenhouse effect causes several problems. These problems include worldwide climates change, which will eventually lead to environmental chaos. These greenhouse effects are especially felt in the Arctic. They trap gases that capture and hold heat in the atmosphere, causing the Arctic to warm up and the ice to melt. Without proper action towards decreasing the effects of global warming, Earth and its inhabitants will face several environmental and security difficulties in the near future.
Global warming creates one main problem, which causes several other problems to stem from it. As the greenhouse gases trap and hold the heat in the atmosphere, it creates a negative impact on the climate worldwide. The majority of the world’s temperatures have increased noticeably, but in the Arctic, the temperature has risen significantly. “Recent climate change has been especially pronounce in the Arctic region, with surface temperatures rising two to four times faster than that of the global average” (Screen and Simmons). In his essay, “Global Warming is Eroding Glacial Ice,” Revkin is arguing that global warming is constantly changing the ...
It is an unquestioned fact that the climate is changing. There is abundant evidence that the world is becoming warmer and warmer. The temperature of the global land average temperature has increased by about 8.5 degrees centigrade from 1880 to 2012 (Karr, et al 406). The one or two degrees increase in temperature can cause dramatic and serious consequences to the earth as well as humans. More extreme weather occurs, such as heat waves and droughts. The Arctic Region is especially sensitive to global climate change. According to the data in recent decades, the temperature in the Arctic has increased by more than 2 degrees centigrade in the recent half century (Przybylak 316). Climate change has led to a series of environmental and ecological negative
First, global warming has an immense impact on Arctic Sovereignty as the rise of greenhouse gases thrive in Canada along with other countries. Within 20 years, the polar ice caps of the Arctic have melted twice as fast compared to before. The loss of Arctic ice can furthermore pose a threat to shipping, as navigating the Arctic becomes increasingly challenging. Finally, climate change threatens the extinction of numerous animal species, namely the polar bear. Hence, global warming poses a major challenge to Arctic Sovereignty and Canada along with other members in the Arctic Council must prevent it.
People are responsible for higher carbon dioxide atmosphere emissions, while the Earth is now into the Little Ice Age, or just behind it. These factors together cause many years discussions of the main sources of climate changes and the temperature increasing as a result of human been or natural changes and its consequences; even if its lead to the global warming, or to the Earth’s cooling. In their articles, “Global Warming Is Eroding Glacial Ice” by Andrew C. Revkin and “Global Warming Is Not a Threat to Polar Ice” by Philip Stott, both authors discuss these two theories (Revkin 340; Stott 344). Revkin is right that global warming is taking place. Significant increase of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is due to human activities combined with natural factors such as volcanic emissions and solar radiation – all together they lead to climate changes and temperatures rising. At the same time, other factors such as deforestation contribute to environmental changes for some glaciers not less than air pollution. However, during global warming not all regions of the planet are affected in the same way, local warming and cooling are both possible during these changes.
Scientists are currently having a great debate; are the arctic storms at lower latitudes normal weather patterns? Or are they happening due to human activity? The effects of climate change are reshaping weather patterns all over the g...
With talk of global warming still being threatened by scientists and governments, the depletion of the polar ice is a major concern. Many experiments have been done to monitor current ice levels and predict future ice levels. Since then scientists have tried to discover what would cause the melting of our polar ice. One major concern is that the melting of the polar ice would create extreme flooding for all costal and island inhabitants. Is the polar ice melting and could greenhouse gases be the cause?

If someone was asked to describe the physical condition of the Arctic and Antarctic regions, how would he or she describe them? Would they think of miles of pure, plain ice as far as the eye can see, or would they picture an ever-growing sea of icebergs and saltwater where the miles of ice once were? Though it may be hard to imagine, slowly melting ice in the Polar Regions have the potential to cause hazardous calamities around the world. As the polar ice caps continue to melt, the potential danger that could result grows by astounding margins. Scientists, however, have devised different ways to combat this growing danger and its source.
Global warming is the greatest challenge facing our planet. It is one of the widely discussed topics because global warming is a threat to all living things on Earth. The animals and people in the arctic are already experiencing this. The earth’s temperature dramatically increased during the past 50 years and now, ice caps are melting w...
New opportunities to expand peak the interests of oil industries, shipping, and even tourism. The first arctic oil field was developed in 1930 in the the Soviet Union. From there, the race to control the arctic regions began. Oil became the power of the arctic economy and still is today. Jobs and opportunity were opened up to people who wanted to work in the oil industry. However, present day discoveries show that global warming is caused by the rapid increase in population and oil fields. Now, in present times, climate change and the potential for new development dominate debates over arctic policy control. However, Arctic ice coverage is at a low and temperatures reached up to 36 degrees fahrenheit in November which is abnormal (CQ Researcher 989). As arctic tourism, shipping,

Global Warming is a condition caused by greenhouse gases and human activities. The increased concentration of greenhouse gases due to activities such as deforestation and fossil fuel burning is causing the Earth’s atmosphere and oceans to warm up. As a result of this, global warming has some serious effects in the shape of extreme weather, species extinctions, and rising sea levels. These effects can contribute to the changes that are taking place all over the world, most of which are dangerous enough to pose a threat to the survival of life on Earth in the future.
Our planet has managed to survive and thrive for about 4.54 billion years. In the last 2 million years we have caused enough damage and destruction to make our world “broken” beyond repair. We will not be able to get back the world we once had. The reason behind this is global warming, specifically, the increase of the global temperature due to the burning of fossil fuels and the release of greenhouse gas emissions into our atmosphere. If we do not make the issue of global warming a priority in today`s society, our entire way of life will be at risk. There are many reasons why so many people believe global warming should be a concern. Thoroughly examined points include: scientific predictions, rising temperatures, human causes, drastic climate changes and animal adaptations. Though there are several points arguing how global warming should not be a concern, the reality of the matter is that it needs to be taken into consideration on a global scale before it is too late, as to do nothing would have devastating implications on humankind.
One of the most substantial problems in the world today is global warming. This gradual warming of the earth is in occurrence at an extremely slow rate but it is happening. Many scientists believe that as human’s work and release greenhouse gases into the earth’s atmosphere, it can become dangerous for the long lasting life of humans and our environment. “Unless we take immediate action, the impacts of global warming will continue to intensify, grow ever more costly and damaging, and increasingly affect the entire planet - including you, your community, and your family” (“Global Warming Impacts”). Everyone should be knowledgeable about global warming and the dangers that it brings to our planet. This essay will examine
