Global citizenship has the term that is widely used for different purposes and meanings. There is no single consensus on the meaning of global citizenship. “The concept of global citizenship arose during the days of ancient Greece and during the era of the Roman Empire” (Dower, p.6). Hans Schattle also measures that "not only has “global citizenship” emerged as a variant within the concept of citizenship, but the concept of “global citizenship” contains many variants and sources of internal division”. “During the past decade, the term “Global citizenship” increasingly has been communicated in public discourse by individuals across a wide variety of political, social and economic institutions—elementary schools encouraging children to embrace other cultures” (Schattle, p. 219). As we all know, the world is changing faster than most of us can possibly keep up with. Technology is one of those drivers of change and people are becoming more connected to each other around the world than ever before though internet usage and as people become more connected they begin to see themselves as becoming or playing the role of citizenship not only through their natural birth place but a citizen of the world. There are many ways available to understand citizenship or being a global citizen. Based on the legal-political basis, citizenship is a status conferred on individuals by political communities to which they belong. According to Dower, citizenship in the state is or entails a formal relationship to the state. T.H. Marshall defines citizenship as a full membership to the communities and it is constituted by three elements which are political right, civil rights and social rights (Dower. p.36-37). It can also be defined as native or na... ... middle of paper ... ... by maintaining its low prices by condoning poor labor conditions in the overseas factories that produces the majority of its good. In conclusion, as Dower say, being a global citizen is not necessarily being a good global citizen. Which mean, we don’t have to be a profits human being to be global citizens; just the little step to do something is all it takes. Standing up for something you believe in, helping out the unfortunate, stopping someone from saying a racist comment is all part of being global citizens. Schattle argued that good citizen should know and have the capacity both to be ruled and to rule, and this is very things is the virtue of a citizen (p.121). A citizen of the world would be one who senses an ability to influence global decision and accept the behavior that come with it. All Individual have duties and responsibility of doing that.

Citizenship, a virtue that many humans have, however not every person has the qualities that further them as a citizen within today’s society. I display citizenship by participating in a number of

According to Keeping and Shapiro, “The term ‘global citizenship’ is increasingly heard, especially in Canada, but rarely defined.”(as citied in Block and Friesen, 2012, page 215) I believe if a person who would like to place their own identity with a global community through actions much more than their identity about values and practices, they will become a part of global citizenship. After learning in ELLA 0360 textbooks, there are three people that stand out. They are Dr. Christopher Opio, Lindsay Willms and David Suzuki.
Good Citizenship is something that is valued by a country. Although not normally noticed or recognized, good citizenship can come in many forms and can be very beneficial to a specified area. Good Citizenship could mean many different things but ultimately good citizenship promotes prosperity, and increases the well-being of said region. In this country we do have government officials, but they only can do so much, and reach so far, in this country you need to focus on "...Not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country" (Kennedy). This means pulling your own weight and not relying solely on these officials and their policies, to get out and try to make this country the best it can be. Which is why through the use of the educatory school system in the United States and through obeying laws of their city/state or nation, and also through the practice of Volunteer work/charity the average American citizen can become above-average and awesome (in every sense of the word) and can also develop into a righteous, upstanding, convivial citizen.

The word “global” is defined as pertaining to the whole world, “citizen” is defined as an inhabitant. To put these words together literally, being a global citizen means belonging to or being a part of the entire world. To combine and interpret these words together, a global citizen is an individual that participates in the advancement of wellbeing and good nature of society. It is through education – understanding and application information – that a person can become a knowledgeable functioning global citizen.
Nussbaum argues that thinking as a world citizen is a form of exile of patriotism’ comfortable and easy sentimentality for and consider our lifestyles from the point of view of justice. To do this we must recognize humanity wherever you are and to grant full reason and moral capacity and our loyalty and respect. The author emphasizes the value of the cosmopolitan stance, because people recognized what is important to them: their aspirations to justice and reasoning ability. However, to be a citizen of the world does one not have to give up local identifications. Always think of ourselves as beings surrounded by a series of concentric circles around which is the greatest of all, that of humanity and the task of the cosmopolitan will "attract these circles to the center" for all humanity is as familiar to us as our compatriots. For the author; this means that American students can still be seen themselves as being defined in part by their particular affections, but they should also learn to recognize humanity. Thus would the world citizenship at the core of civic education.
What is defined as a global citizen? They’re considered to be people or countries who understand their obligations at a global level. Over the past 50 years the countries of the world have become increasingly interconnected. With this, there has been an increasing awareness that only global cooperation can solve problems including poverty and epidemics, stop wars, and reverse environmental degradation and climate change. As the globe battles with these underlying problems, Australia’s partake, even the smallest amount, is fundamentally important, especially with its stance currently as being the 15th richest country in the world. However, in recent years Australia hasn’t demonstrated, in a few of these global issues, the true values and morals of being a good global citizen.
Citizenship implies membership of a political community called the state. We, as members of the community or society, are social beings; we became political beings only having acquired membership of the state, or having born in a state. Our membership of the state, if we extend the meaning of citizenship, grants us a legal status, a status behind which there are set and well-defined rights and duties. This is not to say that as social being, we are without rights or are absolved of our social

The concept of citizenship traditionally has two meanings: it both implies legal relationships between a person and a country, thus being close to nationality, and defines a normative ideal of the association with a political community and an active participation in it; while analyzing the attributes of ‘a good citizen’, we mostly deal with the latter. Though it is democracy that enables us to fully exploit the capacities of our citizenship by giving us civil, political and social rights, it itself requires responsible citizens for proper functioning of its institutions. However, more and more people these days prefer to abstain from public life and to pursue private interests, and with the growth of passive citizenship, it is worth asking: what does constitute a good citizen? I believe that a good citizen is a person who never makes a choice between private interests and public activities, but the one whose life is balanced between those two, the one who needs to step outside the close circle to fulfill his life-mission, to realize his potential.
Since the late twentieth century, the world has experienced a vast transformation with regards to world economies, culture, and politics. The great advancements in technology and communication since the late twentieth century has served a catalysts for what is known today as globalization. The ambition to develop a single global economy along with a universal culture are the promises of globalization. Perhaps the clearest evidence that demonstrates globalization is a reality is the fact that at this point in time very diverse cultures form around the world closer to each other than ever before. That being said, when it comes to the spreading of democracy and human rights, having world cultures closer to each other can prove to be beneficial
We cannot stop the phenomenon of globalization due to strong interdependence of our lives on those things which are a product of globalization. It has complicated the process of education but has also created many opportunities for countries to break out of the traditional models of education. The idea of global citizen is seen as a person who can act locally but think globally, is a goal that keeps an eye on maintaining cultural diversity while exposing a country’s citizen to the benefits of globalization. Cultural diversity can be strengthened through globalization by providing means and resources to support cultural groups attempting to make a difference in society while maintaining their distinctive set of values and
