1. Introduction While Bahia (2008) suggests that genre as text types is evoking and developing dynamically under the influence of two main issues: discipline and registers (Halliday 2004), Coffin, Donohue and North (2009) propose each type of genre carries a rather stable generic stages /schematic structure, which could be divided into obligatory stages and optional stages as per whether or not a stage more or less has to be there for the genre to work. Thus, this paper in the following sections firstly identifies the general generic stages of the collected online job advertisement samples according to the classification of genres and generic stages proposed by Coffin, Donohue and North(please see the Chart 1 in section 2). Then it tries to find out the obligatory stages and optional stages of online job advertisement with discussions provided in the angle of registers (Halliday 2004), which exams used language in three dimensions: filed – “what is being talked about”, tenor – “who is involved in the communication and the relationship between them” and mode – “how the language is functioning in the interaction: for example, whether it is written or spoken” (Thompson 2004). All findings and discussions are based on the 20 collected cross industries online job advertisement samples. 2. Generic Stages of Online Job Advertisement As shown in following Chart 1, considering all samples were written in present tense in Lexicogrammatical aspect and seemed to serviced “classify and describe phenomenon” social purpose rather than others social purposes list in the Chart, online job advertisement should be taxonomic report genre under the genres and generic stages classification standard proposed by Coffin, Donohue and North(2009). That ... ... middle of paper ... ... under each stage, the article points out that the two stages are also obligatory in the view of the participants — employers (tenor) and their purposes: in the first stage employers made clear about the concept of the job positions and included company background information to attract readers to apply; in the second stages employers applied some strategies to help to achieve communicative purposes. However, as mentioned before in the introduction section, genre is evoking and developing dynamically. It is understandable that there may be changes found in other online job advertisements.
