Can you imagine a place so grotesque, where most of their essential nutrients are not harvested from the land, but in a laboratory? Where scientists purposely obscure their research of negative effects in order to maximize profits? Who would allow humankind to fall under monopolies and potentially fatal outcomes, all in the name of monetary value? This is the United States. “(GMOs) can be defined as organisms in which the genetic material (DNA) has been altered in a way that does not occur naturally” (“Diarrhea, Skin Rashes”). Genetically Modified Organisms induce harmful effects to the human body and threaten the earth’s ecosystem; however, an alternative solution to this problem is to invest in more organic farms, as well as providing citizens with a “duty summons” to aid in flourishing society’s harvest. Health concerns are a declining priority, while an increasing amount of civilian population has become affected since the introduction of genetically modified organisms. Food has become a business to produce unnatural DNA with high concentrations of herbicide glyphosate. This is a problem because studies have linked genetically modified foods and their high levels of toxic glyphosate as the major contributing factor in allergies, weight gain, liver problems and celiac disease, as well as many other potentially fatal health problems. Celiac disease is a high concern because it is a condition known to present a reaction towards gluten and can eventually disrupt the absorption of principal food nutrients (“Diarrhea, Skin Rashes”). Doctors have also been baffled by these cases and recommend that one lowers their intake of genetically modified foods (Enghdahl). As society continues to evolve, and progress so do the needs of the population. New advancements in biotechnology, particularly the use of genetically modified organisms (GMO) have become a controversial topic in the early 21st century. What makes it controversial is that the process involves an organism whose genetic material has been modified due to genetic engineering techniques. Technology is used to alter the makeup of organisms such as animals, plants, or bacteria. GMO's are the source of many modified foods and are used widely in scientific research to produce other goods as well. (Wald, 2013) The controversy lies within the ethics, legal and social prospects.

According to the Department of Agriculture, cotton, corn and soybeans are the most common GM crops in the U.S. In 2012, GM cotton accounted for 94 percent of all cotton planted, GM soybeans accounted for 93 percent of soybeans planted, and GM corn accounted for 88 percent of corn planted (add in text citation). This suggests that a large percentage of processed foods sold by supermarkets in the U.S. contain some ingredients derived from GM crops, primarily corn, soy, and canola. Yet, most Americans may not know that the products they consume contain genetically modified organisms (GMOs). Genetically Modified Food under Reasonable Government Regulation, is necessary for the continued and further success of the food supply chain.

When people hear the two words “Organic Foods”, many questions come to mind. Such questions include “what is organic food”, “what does the term organic mean”, and “why should I spend more money on organic food”? Organic food began many years ago before new discoveries and technology ever existed. Throughout the decades, organic food has evolved and caught more attention from buyers and producers than ever before. There are many standards in place to authorize the use of the label “Organic” and also to ensure quality. Regulations and enforcement is placed highly. Understanding the many different labels can be confusing due to the variety of the many different labels. Knowing what to look for and buy is the key to buying truly organic food therefore reaping all the many benefits. Tips will be discussed for those who do not have a full understanding of purchasing organic foods. Many benefits will be derived from going the extra mile to buy and eat organic food. Many researches have been done in supporting the benefits of organic foods. Organic food is a holistic approach acting as a preventive measure and also as a treatment of one’s disease based on individual daily diet.
“Genetically modified foods are a "Pandora's box" of known and unknown risks to humans and the environment. They have been forced onto the American public by multinational biotech and agribusiness corporations without adequate oversight and regulation by the United States government (Driscoll, SallyMorley, David C).”Genetically Modified Food is food which has been chemically altered by scientists during the production process to give the food more nutrients, better appearance, and a longer shelf-life (Rich, Alex K.Warhol, Tom). The importance of this issue is that these GMO’s can actually have a negative effect in our society in general. It could mutate in a negative way and cause cancer or other diseases. Genetically modified food should be strictly controlled due to its various detrimental effects on the environment, human health, and potentially insect/animal effects.
Genetically modified foods are a controversial subject in today’s society. A genetically modified food is the result of biotechnological procedures that allow the genetic makeup of a food or organism to be altered in some way. They benefit the human race in many ways but they also pose many risks to the health of humans and the good of the environment. There is currently not enough proof to ensure the safety of these genetically modified products. Consuming these genetically altered and more processed foods can lead to increased
