The Supreme Court ruled by a 5-to-4 vote that the Constitution guarantees a right to same-sex marriage. A recent news said that US president Barack Obama was pleased with the end of the passing a gay marriage law in New York state. New York will become the largest and latest state to legalize gay marriage. And the US leader said “it’s the time to allow the matrimony between gays for a nationwide policy” [2]. According to many years for fighting of the legalized same-sex marriage, gays and lesbians finally can marriage in the accept law. Gay marriage has been hotly debated in the news lately. While several countries have some form of gay marriage on the books, the Netherlands recently became the first country to give same-sex couples in civil unions the same rights as heterosexual married couples [1]. In my opinion, same-sex marriage should become an established and accepted institution in societies around the world.
My first reason for legalizing same-sex marriage is that same-sex marriage will save a lot of money in every year. To start with, according to the Susan Sommer, the director of constitutional litigation at Lambda Legal, “there are hundreds of different protections and benefits under New York Law [3]”. After the New York Law performed, gay couples will get a lot of financial benefits and legal rights. In addition, same-sex couples who earn less than $65,000 may pay less income tax than the opposite-sex couples. And also, same-sex married couples will get the estate and gift taxes, state employee benefits, and some potential future benefits [3].
My another compelling reason for legalizing the same-sex marriage is that everyone is equal, so the rights of people’s life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness are all unalienable, and the same-sex marriage is the most effective way to ensure the human equal rights. Human equal right is the protection for the citizens, and people will have a freedom for marriage, so they have the rights to choose their partner no matter what their gender is. So I supposed that it is wrong to ban the same-sex marriage, which is not corresponding with the human rights.
My final reason for legalizing the same-sex marriage is that there is no evidence indicates gay parents will raise gay children, since straight parents not only raise straight children. Many opponents said that gay parents will teach their children become a gay or lesbian, but until now, there is no one reliable news or evidence proves this situation happened.

And there are a lot of news proves that straight parents’ children made some crimes, such as drug, steal, and murdered. Even gay parents also can raise a healthy child, so same-sex marriage really don’t need to be banned.
By contrast, there are many arguments against gay marriage. Someone said heterosexual marriages are valid because they produce children, and gay couples can’t legally get married because they can’t produce children. But as my opinion, gay couples completely can adopt a child, and that will bring great benefits for the homeless children in the society. Others said straight marriage will be less meaningful if gay marriage is allowed. As my opinion, if they said gay marriage is not meaningful, and I am really doubt that Britney Spears’ 55-hour just-for-fun marriage is also meaningful.
In conclusion, same-sex marriage should become an established and accepted institution in societies around the world. It’s true because gay marriage will bring a variety of benefits for the couples; it’s true because same-sex marriage is the most effective way to make sure the equal rights for the humans; it’s true because gay parents still can raise a healthy child. After seeing the positive effects of gay marriage, most of the clergy shifted their opinions to support it, and they point out that the Bible also condoned slavery. And following the New York state passed the gay marriage, I believe that sooner or later one thing was sure to happen: same-sex marriage will be accepted in the society around the world.
