CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

According to Merriam Webster dictionary free will is the power of making free choices that are unconstrained by external circumstances or by an agency such as fate or divine will. Many people often question rather free will really exist or is it just simply a theory. For everyone action is usually a result of the law or a greater force. Therefore every action is control and not because of one choice. Yet we are not physically forced to do anything we don’t want to. The concepts of free will play a major role in politics or government, religion, philosophy, and literature. Free will is an important concept in today society that often question and challenge in various fields.

The concepts of free will are view in many ways. In politics or in the government it is seen as a person’s natural rights. One of the main arguments in government is about the free will of the individual. Plato state that human make decision on desire and not what is best for themselves or for other therefore human shouldn’t have free will.[Plato para 5] Not just Plato but many others such as Thomas Hobbes also agree to his theory. That people need a higher force of power to control people free will. Due to this fact that human can’t make popper decision because they are cruel and emotional creature, we need a national government and the laws to help us make important decisions. In communist society there is no free will. Everything is decided for you by the government, you don’t have a choice. Many books such as Dick and Jane and El Señor Presidente often try to criticize government by using the theme of free will.
