Flash Drives and Optical Storage
Flash drives and Optical Storage are quick and easy ways to transfer data, and with all the technology that has been introduced over the years, these have many uses. There compact, portable, and very useful in many situations. To help understand these two topics more in depth, I will be explaining what they are, how they are used, and many other details.
First, I will be explaining flash drives. Flash drives are a data storage device that includes flash memory with an integrated Universal Serial Bus (USB) interface (Wikipedia). It is also a type of memory that can be erased electronically and rewritten. Flash memory chips are a type of solid state media, which means they consist entirely of electronic components and contain no moving parts. Types of flash memory storage include solid state drives, memory cards, USB flash drives, and ExpressCard modules (Shelly and Vermaat COM 12). Flash drives are incredibly light and small (1 oz.) which makes it easy to store and carry. Even though flash drives are small, they can store a lot of data. Flash drives storage ranges from anywhere from one gigabyte to sixty-four gigabytes (Casey). USB flash drives are so popular today because they are faster, easier to use, and more convenient than almost any other method. Burning CDs takes time, and is a permanent process. If you’re taking a project from your office to your home, and you’re going to be finished with it at the end of the week, burning a CD just for that can be wasteful. If you make changes to the project, you have to burn a whole new CD in order to take it back to work. If you’re storing important information about your job, or valuable copyrighted files if you are a creative person, many USB flash dri...

It is a portable storage device that can be attached to a computer through a USB or FireWire connection, or wirelessly. They have high storage capacities and are often used to back up computers or serve as a network
...rd drives. The Flash memory storage is significantly smaller, has no moving parts and starts up immediately. Because these chips have a smaller storage capacity and cost more than traditional hard drives, it’s a great short term growth opportunity for Apple to do something about it. As far as long term growth for Apple, how about an iTV? There have been rumors of one in the works, but with the 2013 Christmas season in the past, the tech industry is anxiously awaiting for any sign of this becoming reality.
The information gathered in this report will show the methodology and tools used to forensically examine any files or images stored in relation to the investigation claim of Bobby Joe. While the examination is being conducted I will show how the chain of custody of evidence is kept, what evidence was discovered in the file image, and identify and examine the devices used. It will also show what steps Bobby Joe took to store information on the claim against him. The results of this investigation will then be used to determine if any offences he may have committed according to the State laws. The report will also provide a summary of the information for a jury to examine and understand. USB flash drive without any security function causes
Hard drives are to be stored on a USB drive and then stored in a safe if it contains pertinent information
This report will go though the manufacture of the drive in great detail, sections covered in this report will be the drives technical background and scientific aspects: including a description of the disassembly, how the parts are related and how they differ. The report will go on further to show how the parts fit together in a series of images and the critical features and components will be highlighted. Further information will be covered including a basic static analysis of loading and material selection verification.
2X CD-ROM drive: This CD-ROM drive can transfer data from the CD-ROM at 300 KB per second while using less than 40% of the CPU bandwidth and has an average seek time of less than 400 milliseconds.
12. DVDs are digital versatile disc, optical discs used to externally store data. DVDs have higher recording and retrieving speeds, are better suited for backing up information, and have higher capacity per device than
USB ports are developed to connect keyboard, mouse, printer and many other devices to the PC. They are developed in mid1990’s and gains a tremendous success because no additional knowledge is required to install the devices. USB ports not only communicate between devices and computer but it can also supply electric power to the devices. USB ports are not only limited to computers but it can also be seen mobile phones and video games consoles. USB ports has undergone a lot of advancement since its development in 90’s. It is now available in three different speeds. They are best known for plug and play in the 20th century. It can be attached and detach from the pc without switching it off. They are standardized by group
Hard Disk Drive (HDD) - Hard drives can store very large amounts of data ranging from 200GB – 1TB. A hard drive is made up of a magnetic disk that consists of a number of platters/disks that are coated in a magnetic material that rotate at 7200 RPM. The data is encoded into bits and written into the disks as a series of changes in the direction of the magnetic pull, and then the data is read by detecting the changes in direction on the
The memory capacity of that time was rather limited. “There were not many external drives, the only external drives of that time were I/O cards, I cards and O cards”
The solid state drive is a very unique piece of technology that was created in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s. It is a storage device that incorporates solid-state memory and emulates a hard disk drive to store data. Solid state drives use interfaces such as USB and PCI express. It is very light, quiet and uses very little power to function, thus making it a very important piece in a modern day computer. As time goes by, there are more and more solid state drives that are found in laptops and even mobile devices as they are relativity smaller than hard disk drives and are much faster. Also if you accidently drop your laptop or mobile device from a decent height (five feet) while it’s processing, then you will greater chances of retrieving your data than a hard disk drive. But there are indeed some downsides to the solid state drive, not many but one that makes it hard to come by, the cost. The cost of these small, fast, crazy pieces cost roughly 3$/gigabyte to 0.15$/gigabyte depending on the model, brand, speed and size of course. Compared to other storage devices, these are the highest possible prices that you can ask for, with reason of course, these things are far too fast
...P, 2005, p 23) Around 2005 cell phones and PDAs were referred to as Swiss army knives of gadgets due to the fact they had many functions in one device. All the big phone companies at the time were premiering phones with more mp3 storage than mp3 player, essentially foreshadowing the future. (Dempsey, P, 2005, pg. 23)An average smart phone in the year 2014 can hold around 8-16 gigabytes of data, and if storage is allotted correctly, the phone can hold thousands of mp3s. Any mp3 player trying to have a foothold in the consumer market cannot compete with a device that is an essential part of an average person’s daily life, and a music player. “Smartphones with increasingly high-quality audio and video capabilities have become popular and therefore hamper demand for products in the Audio and Video Equipment Manufacturing industry.” (Krabeepetcharat, T. 2013. p. 8)

...text files and spreadsheets, cloud storage will be very beneficial. Using it as backup for these types of files is a major plus. Internet connection speed is not an issue and almost anyone has easy access to the files.
A storage device is the system where your computer stores and retrieves your data. Storage devices can be a hard disk drive, DVD, CD drives, Blu-Ray drives or flash drives. A computer can retrieve the data by being “commanded” to retrieve it from the storage area and retrieve it to your RAM. The RAM of the computer is your temporary memory where your data is inputted, and then processed and stored onto a storage device for permanent placement.
