Before I entered the Medical and Health sciences Pre-professional program, I have never thought choosing a right career is difficult. Since I was in middle school, I already have had my future career in mind, a doctor. To be honest, I have never known that there are more than 10 specialized doctors that require different personal characteristics, but when I entered high school, I was inspired to be a surgeon like my father. At that time, I was thinking how amazing and ironic it is that cutting into people can save their lives. However, after I take a number of surveys that are available in the program to know my personality and interests, I have understood myself better than ever before. According to Myer-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) and true color, I have found that my personality trait is ISTJ: Introversion, Sensing, Thinking, and Judging. And, for the Strong Interest Inventory Profile, my highest theme is ICR: Investigation, Convention, and Realistic. Surprisingly, they do reflect most of my personality, interests, preferred environment, and top ten jobs. Upon entering this career field, I surely will encounter a number of challenges, but in order to optimize my compatibility with the career, I have to find some ways to enhance those areas. In order to be a surgeon, one must have effective and excellent communication skill, strong physical stamina, good leaderships, and rapid problem-solving skill. Especially, surgeons must be really good with their hands. As I research my career requirement, I found out that my type of personality traits and preference working environment are dissimilar to the surgeons. While I am introvert, I like working independently and require some times alone for isolation. Moreover, I fin... ... middle of paper ... ...close friends, and then gradually expend my social networking lists. As soon as I want to develop my career, I can take some times to talk with co-worker personally and listen to their answers. I should remember their personal important dates like birthdays, anniversaries, or accomplishments and make surprise celebrate for them or congratulate them. When it comes to working in teams, I should analyze the talents of my co-workers and assign tasks from my to-do lists. For the time being, I already committed to pursue a career in medical field as a surgeon, but I will also prepare for the unexpected situations that make me change my career. Therefore, if I were to change my career, I would choose the careers in medical field that require the same basic classes or same major as surgeons such as pharmacists, surgical assistance, biochemists, or physicians.
The career I chose is sports medicine. Sports medicine is a career based on helping those injured whether they are an athlete or a 23-year-old in a car accident. After doing some research on which career is best for me, I chose sports medicine because I have a fascination with helping those that may be hurt, out of shape, or in rehab and need to get back on their feet. Sports medicine has always been my dream job because it fills that desire for me to help those that are injured, allowing me to expand into different branches to provide assistance to those recovering; also providing an income that I will be able to live comfortably.
I began my college career unsure of the path ahead of me. I knew I had a passion for medicine, however, I did not know which direction I would take. With the expansive amount of options offered within the fields of science and medicine, it was difficult to narrow down exactly what direction I wanted to take. I gained some clarity the summer of my sophomore year when I stayed at a close friend’s home, whose father, a practicing Medical Physician, became somewhat of a mentor to me. The passionate way in which he discussed the practice of medicine led me to develop an interest in pursuing a career as a physician. He explained that a career in the medical field was about responsibility, the responsibility to work with all members of the healthcare team for the well-being of the patient as well as their family
All the personality tests I’ve taken in class, such as sigi3 and DWYA suggest I could pursue a career in my chosen field. Based on my personality type I like caring for people and “helping others reach their full potential” (Do What You Are 2014). Because of my desire to help people and my attention to detail pursuing a career as a nurse practitioner would be perfect for me.

My future career goal is to become an anesthesiologist. An anesthesiologist administers an anesthetic to patients before going into surgery. They also have to keep monitor of vital life signs and make sure everything in the body is functioning properly while under the anesthetic. I think being an anesthesiologist is something I’d enjoy being because I like being in control. I like making sure people are okay and that is specifically what anesthesiologists do; they make sure the patient can’t feel any pain and is comfortable during surgery.
An occupation that is especially difficult is being a surgeon. The reasons that this job is so difficult is because there are extremely long and stressful working hours, they spend hardly any time with their families, and they have to deal with people’s lives on the line.

With so many jobs in the world it’s so hard to choose just one. Do you want to be an athlete or a doctor? You have to decide wisely because once you choose turning back is a difficult task. Being a surgeon is the job I want to have as an adult. Being a surgeon may be hard but in the long run it’s worth it. This career caught my attention as a kid. I would always watch these ER shows and see these crazy tasks that they would have to deal with, and through all that they’d be calm and collective. Seeing a surgeon save someone’s life inspires me to want to do the same thing. If I would have the ability to save someone’s life, it would allow me to see the world in a whole new way. Every year more than 15 million people in the U.S. have surgery. That being said the need for surgeons will never decrease, as there always will be a surgery to perform. A surgeon is always on call everyday of the year, they need to be able to perform under some of the most pressures situations. Five things one must understand when researching a career are: career description historical perspective, salary, training and education and career progression.

Throughout my life, I have worked towards one goal which is to become a doctor. Medicine offers the opportunity for me to integrate different scopes of science while trying to improve human life. Medicine has intrigued me throughout all my life because it??s a never ending mystery and every answer has questions, and vice versa. Upon entering my career, I had assumed that professional and financial success would surely bring personal fulfillment. This realization triggered a process of self-searching that led me to medicine. The commitment to provide others with healthcare is a serious decision for anyone. As I examined my interests and goals, however, I underwent a process of personal growth that has propelled me towards a career as a physician. A career in medicine will allow me to integrate thoroughly my passion for science into a public-service framework. Since childhood, I have loved acquiring scientific knowledge, particularly involving biological processes. During my undergraduate studies, I displayed my ability to juggle competing demands while still maintaining my academic focus; I have succeeded at school while volunteering part time, spending time with family and friends, and working part-time. To better serve my expected patient population, I worked over my English and Korean language skills. I have come to discover that a job and even a good income, without another significant purpose, will not bring satisfaction. I planed to utilize my assets, namely my problem- solving affinity, strong work ethic, and interpersonal commitment, to craft a stimulating, personally rewarding career in medicine. I have taken stock of myself, considering my skills, experiences, and goals. I have looked to family and friends, some of whom are doctors, for advice. Because of this self-examination, I have decided to pursue a career in health care. The process has been difficult at times but always illuminating. Throughout it all, I have never lost confidence - the confidence that I will actively absorb all available medical knowledge, forge friendships with fellow students, and emerge from my training as a skilful and caring physician.
