Field hockey can also be referred to as Hockey. It is a team sport wherein a team of players attempts to score goals by pushing, hitting or flicking a ball into the opposing team’s goal using sticks. The term field hockey would only be used in countries where the simple term hockey was used for different forms such as ice hockey, street hockey and etc. Field hockey has myriad international tournaments for genders, male and female, although in some countries such as the US, field hockey is played for the most part by females. Major tournaments for instance, Olympic Games - held every four years, World Hockey Cup (men and women) - held every four years (in between the Olympics,) Hockey Asia Cup - held every two years (in between the Olympics,) Champions Trophy - currently held every year (for the top 6 classified nations,) Sultan Azlan Shah Hockey Tournament - held annually in Malaysia (an invitational tournament,) Champions Challenge - held every two years for teams categorized 7th-12th place globally, the Commonwealth Games, and World Cups for juniors sponsor field hockey. The worldwide governing body is the International Hockey Federation (FIH.) The International Hockey Federation is separated into groups and part of is the Hockey Rules Board which produces the sports proper rules. The International Hockey Federation moreover organizes events for the Hockey World Cup and Women’s Hockey World Cup. Field hockey is packed with players who may be juniors or seniors. Ice hockey, a sport that has been in existence for over two hundred years, has become a fan favorite across the globe. From Canada to Sweden, you will be able to find some of the best ice hockey players in the world; both male and female. This pastime has instilled a unique tradition throughout the years of its practice by a combination of both physical skill and mental strength. Although it did not provide aid to globalization, it has created a worldwide culture that many people are proud to be a part of. Since its inception until now, there has been a great deal of gender stereotyping concerning the sport. When you think of hockey, you would think of people getting in fights or skating. To even play hockey you need to skate well enough to protect yourself from other people. Theses skates are 2.9 mm or 0.115 inches thick, skating is more tiring than running and they require different muscles. You have to be tough enough to take hits, block shots, or someone hitting you with a hockey stick. The puck you play with is 1 in thick and 3 inches in diameter. Participation in sports and games has long been a part of Native culture. The most significant example of a sport invented and played by Natives is lacrosse. Lacrosse was one of many varieties of indigenous stickball games being played by Native Americans and Canadians at the time of European contact. Whether it's running around and grabbing the opponents flag, or running around and pushing people out of the way for the touchdown, flag football is a great sport to increase adrenaline. Playing flag football gives players energy and helps keep them in shape. The constant movement helps work ones cardio and keeps one active. It is fun to play because players gat to play with friends and meet new people. It helps players work together and have competition. Everyone who likes doing a variety of exercises and likes to have fun could enjoy flag football in more ways than one.
Spring is full of transformations and changes. Flowers blossom, the temperature rises, and those with allergies begin a long journey of pain and agony. The start of spring also brings with it the beginning of baseball and softball. By carefully analyzing two teams representative of each sport at the University of Arizona a sociological analysis based on the similarities and differences between the sports was conducted. Despite the relative similarities between the two sports a number of differences were also identified showing that both sports are interconnected with cultural aspects and elements that may not immediately be observed on the surface.
In a soccer game there are two teams of 11 players who try to score a point by kicking a ball into the opponents net. Soccer is played on a rectangular field with a net on each short side of the field. Sports, a very popular past time today, have been around since ancient times. Greek Olympic Games featured events from chariot races, javelin throws, to wrestling. In addition, a game similar to soccer was played in China by the second century BC. In England, a violent rugby type game was even played to settle feuds between villages. With the development of the industrial revolution and the creation of the first public schools, sports decreased in violence and were played more recreationally and constructively. Basketball was invented to help the youth in New England spend their energy in the winter months. Since the early 1900’s sports have been a key experience in the United States (“History of Sports”). I have played sports for many years, and the experience has helped me grow significantly as an individual.
