The Fetal Position: A Pro-Life Argument

Each year there are roughly 6 million pregnancies in the U.S., with 20% resulting in the termination of the fetus, or abortion in other terms. Mathematically, that is estimated to be 1.2 million babies that have no hope for a future outside the womb (American Pregnancy). Everyone has a right to life; this right is exercised in many parts of the American life, namely the Declaration of Independence (The Abortion Controversy 113-116). Therefore, the United States’ federal government should go to greater lengths to prohibit these so called ‘abortions’ in every case, regardless of the situation. It matters not what the women who get these abortions think, and it matters to many that this is looked upon to be immoral (Guttmacher, The Abortion Controversy 21-46 ). This method of killing strips that fetus’s God-given right to life and allows the bearer to escape the consequences of their actions without so much as a fractional punishment, and very little restrictions depending on the state (Rovner).

Women nowadays are finding abortions to be quite a routine in their lives, and it has become entrenched in the American society (Congressional Record). But, not all women seek abortions for the same purpose. According to the Guttmacher Institute, the primary reason women receive abortions is due to the fact that they would rather not take on the responsibility of caring for a child. Many of the women who go to these abortion clinics had no access to contraception. Some had inadequate healthcare and were not even educated on the subject of intercourse and pregnancy. Some had poor jobs that made little income and was insufficient to support the child (Guttmacher). Still, others feel that they would be too selfish to allow their children grow ...
