Date rape:

Apart from marital rape, date rape is another serious offense towards female victims, which have low reporting rate (Munsch & Willer, 2012). Date rape situations involve an agreed upon social interaction and are often characterised by romantic interest and some level of prior sexual intimacy (Pumphrey-Gordon & Gross, 2007).

Why date rape occur?

Date rape is a serious offence, it happened with various reasons. At this point, almost all the victims are female.

Women get drunk while dating with somebody is the most common cause of date rape (Pumphrey-Gordon & Gross, 2007). Pumphrey-Gordon and Gross (2007) said heavily drunk women can be served as an insinuation to aggressive man, signaling she is ready to engage in sexual activity.

Usually, aggressive man do not consider himself as a rapist, and rationalise his act by arguing that he wants to have further romantic relationship with that woman (Bouffard & Bouffard, 2010).

Bouffard and Bouffard (2010) stated that people who hold “rape-supportive attitude”, believe that they can gain more in sexual act, skewed their choice towards engaging in sexual activity.

Corresponding to rational choice theory, after balancing the potential cost and benefit, offender will consider to commit sexual assault or not (Bouffard & Bouffard, 2010). It implies that date rape assailant doesn’t take date rape as a serious crime and no fear to face the consequences (Bouffard & Bouffard, 2010). During a dating relationship, man expect sexual intimacy earlier than woman (Bouffard & Bouffard, 2010).

Conclusion

In summary, marital rape happen on married couple. When marriage contain low satisfaction of sex, victim unable to resist sexual assault from husband (Martin, Taft & Resick, 2007). Victims of marital rape are more likely to have posttraumatic stress disorder or higher risk to suicide and homicide. This is consequence for victims to undergo horrible rape within marriage (Martin, Taft & Resick, 2007).

In general, date rape happen in between dating couple. Both of them agree on consensual kissing and foreplay, but woman finally refuse sexual intercourse (Pumphrey-Gordon & Gross, 2007).
