There were many reasons for the outbreak of world war one the main causes include Nationalism, militarism, alliances imperialism and the Balkan and morocco crises there were many other causes for world war one such as the assassination of the heir to the Austro-Hungarian empire Franz Ferdinand and the assassination of jean Jaures a French socialist considered as Europe’s last chance for peace in the build up to the first world war. Nationalism was a main factor in the cause of the First World War. This was because most people in this period was very proud of their country as it was straight after the big industrial revolution in Europe this factor created tension between rival countries such as Germany Austria-Hungary and Russia this indirectly lead to the dual alliance between Germany and Austria-Hungary to protect themselves from Russia then 3 years later in 1881 the Austro-Serbian alliance was formed between Austria-Hungary and Serbia to stop Russia taking control of Serbia, Nationalism was a key factor in causes the Great war because it helped cause tension between nations which lead to alliances which was also a major cause of world war one ; The alliances in Europe played a big role in the break out of world war one because if one nation declares war on another than the allies of the nations must help win the war, for example on august the 3rd 1914 Germany declares war on France Because of the triple entente of 1907 Britain had no choice but to help her allies and declare war on Germany and help France with their offensive plan XVII to push through eastern France to the German borders. Great War, also known as The First World War, lasted for four year (1914 to 1918). It brought a huge development of war technics and weapons. More number of countries had been involved in the Great War than any previous war. It involved the mobilization of the whole nations, not just an enormous army that turned the war into a “total war”. (Clare 6) However, historians are still arguing about the major cause of the World War I. The major cause will be one of the four long-term causes of WWI, which are Militarism, Alliance, Imperialism, and Nationalism. In my opinion, the two major causes would be Alliance and Nationalism. Alliance is an association between two or more countries for mutual benefits that formed with different treaties, while Nationalism is feeling and principles of patriotic.

Nationalism, militarism, imperialism, social darwinism, and Jingoes where five of the main forces that were pushing Europe to the brink of war. Another main force was the development of Alliance systems. These ideas and systems threatened the balance of power which could then cause a major war to break out. In Europe at the time, there were many ideas which were causing friction. Nationalism, which was the desire for a country was causing friction because people in old empires sought to be free. The leaders of these people would not be happy and a war would definitely break out. If they became free they would also need to take land from someone else and this again may cause a war and usually did. In conclusion, there were many factors involved in the casing of World War One, but there were 3 very influential causes. Nationalism, which was extreme if not borderline insane pride in your country. Alliances that had stirred up countries into thinking they were not safe. being that this was 1914 and countries were still developing and some were weaker than others, it was very likely you could be invaded which is why alliances scared some countries into a hostile state. And the final cause was militarism, a kind of dictatorial state where you were ready to go to war at any minute and there were guns everywhere and children were not safe. World War One was caused by a lot of things but Nationalism, Alliances, And Militarism were the root causes.
In the July Crisis Austria-Hungary blamed Serbia for the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand (the heir to the throne of the Austro-Hungarian Empire) despite not having conclusive proof. Austria-Hungary asked for German support to "eliminate Serbia as a power factor in the Balkans". Germany agreed, offering her full support for Austria- Hungary to start a war with Serbia, and this became known as the "blank cheque". Austria-Hungary and Germany could not have failed to realise the possibility of Russian intervention and a European war, suggesting to me that war was their objective. Austria-Hungary issued an impossible ultimatum to Serbia, which was likely to provoke a war. Serbia was given only 48 hours to reply, so was forced to think quickly, or other countries would be mobilized and ready to attack. Serbia accepted all but one point of the ultimatum. Consequently war was announced. If given more time Serbia could have discussed the issue further in a conference. The British foreign minister, Grey suggested a conference, but this was rejected by Germany and Austria-Hungary, suggesting that they had deliberate aims for war during the Balkan Crisis, rather than the Balkan Crisis being mismanaged.
