Extreme Political Polarization

The political climate today is increasingly becoming more turbulent as Republicans and Democrats volley for superiority in Washington. The two parties are becoming more polarized by the hour, and this is affecting the ability of the government to move forward and pass legislation and continue to improve America. The Senate is in a state of gridlock on some of the most important issues to the people of the United States to date, and yet the senators which the people elected are instead caught up in fighting the people on the other side of the aisle. They should be listening to what their constituents need and want. Today Republican senators are using filibusters, scare tactics, and even entire news networks to slant the truth and continue the stagnation of government.

The United States has been host to many political parties in the past, but the most powerful and prominent are the Democratic and Republican parties, and have dominated the presidential elections since 1852. The Democratic party, which came into power last year, has a majority in both the House and Senate, as well as holding the Executive Office. Previous to the two thousand nine election, the Republican party had held power for eight years, managing in that time to destroy what was once a two hundred billion dollar surplus, estimated by the Congressional Budget Office back in the year two thousand. Instead the Democratic party inherited a ten trillion dollar deficit as well as a crashing economy, and two wars when they came into power in 2008. ...majority in the House and Senate, as well as the Executive Office. Although the outlook seems bleak, there are some grass roots movements by intellectuals and the internet savvy youth of America. They have begun to battle against the widespread propaganda, with internet sites such as Huffington Post, and comedic news shows such as The Daily Show and The Colbert Report are beginning to illuminate the blaring lies put forth by the Republicans. Other movements by Democrats have also begun to show just how corrupt the Republicans have become, and how this extreme polarization has hurt America, and its people. Obama continues to hold an amicable attitude towards Republicans, and foster bipartisanship. Only time will tell if eventually the American people can see through deception, and eventually allow this country to move forward in a way that benefits all.
