I could remember sitting in the living room at my aunt’s house after getting out the bus from kindergarten. She would feed me lunch and after I ate all of my chicken nuggets, I could turn on the TV before I took a nap. There was always something on that was interesting to watch. A lot of them definitely had a lot of color schemes and fast paced stuff. Gullah Gullah Island was one of my favorites. It was broadcasted as a thirty-minute episode that had a giant hopping yellow muppet frog that was funny. It had a tropical theme, happy and bubbly music, and happy people living their happy lives. They would portray different actions that happened in real life. Most of the actions were bad. The actions came with consequences or a moral lesson. The main characters of the show would tell us why that action was bad and how we should fix it if we were to ever come across the same case again. After they learned their lesson, the show ended with the happy upbeat theme song.
The media has become an industry with booming success. The “media” can be considered as the internet, magazines, newspapers, blogs, books, movies, video games, and mostly used television. The list of the different types of media is high, but there are ones used more than others. Internet is one of the highest. With its easy access, literally billions can search things easily. “Sixty-six percent of high school students get their news and information from the news pages of Internet portals such as Google and Yahoo!” (Baker). The media is an aid to a lot of businesses as well. The media is used to sell items such as blockbuster movies, new toys, cars, and even alcohol. It is used to promote other businesses like Subway and McDonalds. It is used to educat...

I’m not much of a cooker and I have trouble taking care of myself. “Girls who consistently see women portrayed as helpless victims or housewives are likely to accept this view of women as part of their sex role” (Kasschau 196).
How does media technology help the cognitive development of a child? There are numerous things that help with the development of their minds. Technology offers a lot of potential when it comes to a children’s ability to learn. It also has ways to discourage and affect children in what they want to do with their lives. Whether it is television shows or the news, it teaches children everyday skills they need to know. Before that time comes where they head out into the world as individuals.

...ildren that seem helpful and educational. Learning systems such as leap frog or educational television programs are also a hot topic when it comes to giving your child a boost in the education department. Being that it is still “media”, the question is; how helpful are they really and how much is too much? (Garrison & Christakis, 2005) Many researchers suggest that there are no negative effects of these educational programs. However it may not be the education department that these children will be lacking in. It is found that more children that are preoccupied with media, even educational, are more likely to become obese, lack in social skills, and be less creative. There are pros and cons to every situation that occurs in life. When it comes to the development of a child, balance is ultimately what needs to be achieved to be able to obtain a healthy lifestyle.
Today’s generation of children would rather play video games, text, or be on social media. Technology is beginning to control the lives of children. Nicholas Carr said, “When we’re online, we’re often oblivious to everything else going on around us. The real world recedes as we process the flood of symbols and stimuli coming through our devices.” Although there’s negatives to how technology can affect children and it’s very easy to make a connection to the negatives but what about the positives of a child using technology. I’m a strong believer of using technology and that using technology is helping children’s social, writing, and language
For years, the population has been exposed to different forms of media. Newspapers, magazines, television, films, radio, and more recently the Internet are ways of promoting ideas, spreading news, and advertising products.
Many people have a wide range of opinions on whether technology is having a positive influence on our children or a negative, there is a vast amount of evidence to support both of these arguments. Technology can refer to so many things, but there are three main parts of technology that have the greatest effect on our children: video games, television/media, and computers. The modern technologies we have today are so powerful because they attract our genetic biases, that the human brain has a tremendous love for visually presented information. Video games, television, movies and computer programs are all very visually oriented and therefore they attract and keep the attention of children easily. By far the largest concern of technology today is video games.
Media or medium of communication has been conceptualized to effect and drive information to the greater masses because it’s the venue where information can be linear form of communication. Everyday we encounter the media in some form. It could be waking up to the sound of the radio, or passing billboards in the streets or simply just watching television. They are a lot of different forms of media, for example, verbal or written media, visual media and aural media. Examples of media would include newspapers, magazines, film, radio, television, billboard advertisements as well as the internet. Media studies came about because of the developments in mass communication and it provokes the generation of exigent questions about what we think we know as well how we came about knowing it. There are always changes in the media and the term “media” refers to the many ways of physically forming meanings as well and carrying them. The term “media studies” on the other hand, means different courses priorities different media; different theories and different learning outcomes (Bazalgette, 2000).
There are many facts that show how children are affected by television. The most obvious is the effects that television has on the brain. 'Television interferes with the development of intelligence, thinking skill and imagination.';(LimiTv) A huge element of thinking is taking from what you already know and deciding how it applies in different situation. School makes you do this, but television does not. Michael and Sheila Cole, sociologist, say that 'Children socialized to learn from television had lower than normal expectations about the amount of mental effort required to learn from written texts, and tended to read less and perform relatively poorly in school.';(Development of Children 24) Which means that it takes very little effort to follow a television show and kids are raised on television believe that it takes less effort to learn from television rather than books because they have been 'spoon-fed'; information by television. 'Opportunities for a child's imagination to develop are also denied by habitual viewing.'; (Neural Activity and the Growth of the Brain) Children need some unstructured time to allow imagination skills to form by thinking about a book or story, a conversation, or an event.
