Video games in today’s society have become very popular. Every new game that comes out to be played and conquered by the average gamer has its own category. There are several other types of genres of games that people play but because of big hit titles and the new popular game systems like the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3, people become more interested in a game that is well known than a game they have never even heard of before. Every game has its own storyline and own way of how it unfolds and where the game ends according to game play. Some of the biggest reasons people sway to certain genres of games is because of the game titles released under them and the demand of people who want a good game under that category. The top three most popular genres of games played today are shooters, action/adventure, and RPG’s or role-playing games.
Shooting games, for instance, have the popular title Halo 1, 2, and 3 under their belts. Also a few other titles such as Call of Duty and Gears of War bring in a large crowd, thus creating a much larger demand. Shooting games are very different from other categories of games. They have their own storylines with their very own set of weapons, armour, gear and vehicles to choose from throughout the quests of the game. Every character in most cases will have the ability to be equipped with a certain set of clothing and whatever is wanted or needed to bring with them for the first mission as well as the many missions that lie ahead. Some items, being better than others in most cases, have to be unlocked in order for it to be equipped as progress is made throughout the game, basically like a bonus for playing the game so far in depth and doing such a good job for getting that far. These games now days ...

...with monsters, that gives access to even more important locations such as cities, dungeons, and or small castles. Games such as Oblivion, Xenogears, and World of Warcraft are good examples of a role-playing game. Games like the ones I just mentioned give out a lot of reading that is required to do during the game. Role-playing games are more the type of game that one option chosen may lead to a different ending than another option would. These games rely on the player to determine how his or her particular character will come out at the end of the game and just exactly how good he or she will be by then.
All game genres have their own unique but distinct classification of how they are played. Having popular or big hit titles on certain gaming systems and certain genres makes all the difference of just how big that particular game or genre will become or ever be.
During the 1990’s the video games were constantly changing.this decade saw tons of innovations in the gaming industry. The creation of 32-bit games and 3D games dominated the virtual world: Contra, Battletoads, Mortal Kombat, etc. Video game genres developed and branched out, creating some of the popular genres in video games today, such Role-playing games(RPGs),
Before I read about procedural rhetoric, I always wonder why is video games so appealing to me compare to other forms of media such as movies or books. What my understanding of why this is happening is rather than watching someone else going through adventures, we are the adventurers in video games. In video games, we are more aware of what is happening to us and the characters within the game.
...lieve that video games in popular culture are a misnomer. Videogames are not “in” popular culture, they are “a part of” popular culture, just like TV, radio, and motion pictures.
In pages 20-24 of Reality Is Broken: Why Games Make Us Better and How They Can Change the World, I agree that there are many different video games. For me, I am a fan of single-player games with story modes because I can play by myself and go at a pace that suits me. However, I enjoy playing online multiplayer when I have friends I can play with because it is fun interacting with friends and doing stuff together. I play on a console or my computer, but I have played on my phone and a hand-held device. I have not played a board game or card game in a while, but I would play it if the opportunity presents itself. The video games genres I play are sports, action, and adventure. I agree with Jane McGonigal that video games share four defining traits,
The history of video games began in early 1950s, and it continued in development until today. video games gained popularity as movies and T.V shows, and like movies which producers focus on the story plot, each character role, and the way they are being represented, videogames have the same concerns, especially character 's role and, representation, because most of players will not care about the game’s story, they just want to have fun playing the game, but the player will play as a character, or meet other characters from various gender, and that what make game designers care about the gender and, characters representation. and by the way of presenting gender, it will control the number of players of both genders, because it could connect to their life. games industry made researches about what both genders want in their game,
Video games are a valuable part of the world today. They feed the minds of the creative and provoke the minds of the less creative. Violence, immersion, and an unusual setting are all qualities of a game that create an intense and memorable experience for the player. By demonstrating and improving upon the three qualities that were deemed necessary to create a good game, video games could amount to astonishing heights in the future and bring something new to the table that could surprise us all.
ames have been played before we began to record time. Almost 50 years ago, games changed into a new form. Magnavox Odyssey can be debated to be the first game console. Throughout 50 years ago and now, video games have become essential to every living room and a pastime to every young child. Companies have risen from this new industry, to produce games to young investors and dominate the game world. With new technology, graphics, and software: gaming franchises run mostly by public support. Each decade that passes, games are changed by America’s public these games change based on how the public perceives them.
...d-goal that the player must meet to complete the game - of course, some games deviate from this and provide type of experiences - from the typical action games to sports simulators, racers, strategy/board game, competitive multiplayer and educational games. Yes, video games can also provide learning experiences to their audience even outside the conventional educational genre. One of my favorite genres of literature was introduced to me through one of my favorite video games. “God of War” is an immensely popular video game series loosely based on Greek Mythology, and while I was somewhat familiar with the genre before the game, it was only afterwards that my fascination with Greek literature blossomed. Other video games such as the “Assassin’s Creed” series allow players to play through important historical events from the Renaissance era and the American Revolution.
Instead of the franchises popularity having a positive impact, overtime, it infected the gaming market along with it’s consumers and developers such as Microsoft Game Studios and EA. It has become an aggrandized cancer on the face of video games everywhere, destroying franchises a...

It has been around for more than a decade (ten years)! There are currently ten games and there is another one coming out called Call of Duty Advanced Warfare. My favorite is Call of Duty Black Ops 2 which seems to be a fan favorite.
This paper has investigated the different approaches one could choose when analysing video games. Järvinen(2007) used an extensive set of elements and criteria to give a game a classification in the form of a “glocal”. In addition the emotional response to the game and player skill was also taken into account. Malliet(2007) did not provide predefined classifications, instead points of interest were given, which could be used for
Video games have come a long way. They have evolved from the simple game of Pong into a complex, multi-platform, multi-genre, multi-billion dollar industry.
The experience of game play can be described as an activity in which the player is virtually embodied in the game world. Anyone who has experienced the world of gaming knows how the engaging experience can manifest itself with “sweaty palms and chills down the spine” (http://www.eludamos.org/index.php/eludamos/article/viewArticle/80/147) when coming face-to-face with alien creatures; or with the adrenaline rush we get when racing a high speed automobile head-to-head with a friend. Gaming is an excellent source of entertainment. It provides an opportunity for social growth, provides a meaningful form of exploring expression, and provides heightened sensitivity.
Gaming provides more advantages than it does disadvantages. Playing video games is good for you. There are many game genres out there in the world, you just have to choose the right ones to benefit you. For example, if you pick a strategy game, it would help you in critical thinking and benefit you by helping to make good decisions. A great strategy game called Starcraft was inspected in an experiment. It was found that Starcraft helped increased brain flexibility. Brain flexibility is the ability to switch between tasks and look at things from a different point of view. Higher brain flexibility allows you to comprehend multiple concepts at the same time. Brain flexibility allows you to switch between thoughts based on certain conditions and helps you adjust to your situation. For example if I were thinking about playing a video game and end up seeing the word “homework” I would instantly think about whether I have homework or not, and if I do, I would stop thinking about playing gam...
