Growing up has not been easy, but it’s a part of life we all go through, Like in the Disney Movie Meet the Robinsons you need to “Keep Moving Forward”. In Life we have to take challenging Obstacle courses that are not so easy but it helps us in life. One challenging obstacle course that we take is school, to be exact High school. In high school to get to the top you have to fail because from failing you learn, because you learn from your mistakes and “Keep Moving Forward” and you do your best to do a better job the next time. From success not so much because you are not learning anything out of it. Vista del lago students are required to learn special goals known as Expected school- wide learning Results known as (ESLRS).
As you progress throughout the semesters you should improve in the 5 ESLRS Effective Communicator, Intellectually developed Person, Problem Solver, Self-directed Life-Long Learner, and Responsible Community Member. As an individual I have improved my ability as an Effective Communicator, Self-directed Life-long Learner and a Responsible Community Member. The first one that I have improved is being an Effective Communicator. An effective communicator demonstrates purpose and they are aware of the audience when communicating orally and in writing. They employ a variety of Strategies and technologies in order to communicate effectively. In my English class when we did group projects I had to communicate with my group so we could understand our PowerPoint project and what we were doing so we could help each other out and get stuff done for the project. W also had to orally use our effective communicating when we presented in front of the class so they could know what was going on, and would not be confused. Also...

Furthermore in one of portfolios for English III Honors, we had to give advice to the incoming freshmen (8th graders) I had to give them advice on what to be expect when coming what not to do and how to survive. I also had to regulate to them and give them rules so they do not mess up freshman year and that showed a lot of discipline, and honesty because I had to be honest with them.
In conclusion Growing up has not been easy but it’s a part of life that we all go through. If you use the 5 ESLRS like I have you can grow up and become very successful. Life only gets harder from after you step out of high school but if you just remember the motto like in the Disney movie Meet the Robinsons “Keep Moving Forward” and also the motto “Just Keep Swimming” from Finding Nemo it will be a smooth happy trail into the wonders of what life takes you and brings you.
American high schools today have lost track of what the purpose of going to school is. The article, “Let’s Really Reform Our Schools,” written by Anita Garland, explains how we can help our schools and make them a better learning place. In order to get high schools to be a better place to learn would be to throw out the “punks”, have the schools get uniforms, change junk foods to healthy foods, and get rid of prom and competitive sports. After all of this, the students who want to learn, can do that without all of the distractions.
However, some programs, such as the Sobrato Early Academic Language (SEAL) program, are showing success with ELs. SEAL is a research-based pre-K-3rd grade program designed to develop the language and literacy skills of ELs and to close the achievement gap between ELs and their native-English speaking peers by 4th grade. The program has been implemented in 31 Silicon Valley schools, and evaluation results suggest that SEAL students are showing growth in Language, Literacy, Cognition, Learning, Social, Self, and Self Regulation as measured by the Desired Results Developmental Profile (DRDP).
...be able to look at a graph and tell me if it is positively or negatively sloped, what the x- and y-intercepts are, and tell me the story behind the graph. If my students are able to do these things, this will help them be better prepared for life after high school no matter what field they pursue in life.
High school students don’t know how they can succeed in school and improve their academic performance. A student in high school with unexceptionally easy courses could glide through high school with very limited effort involved and receiving mediocre results. The student receives low grades since they are not required or expected to exceed above any standards set by the administration. When that student graduates high school and begins their college career or applies for jobs, they are vacuous and struggle since they only took the easy route throughout their early life and was never prepared. Unfortunately, most students end up in that predicament of not being prepared for their future struggles and fail to succeed since there was never any
Growing up through life’s journey is definitely a challenging time. While growing up there are many challenges, for example, what friends to be around, college to attend, soulmate to look for, how many children, and many others. All of these examples help one to grow into the adult that they will become or have become. In various cultures, one is required to “grow up” at numerous ages, all depending on where one grows up. Knowledge is the key factor in growing up. Becoming a wiser being that is fit for society. In every single aspect of life, a person gains knowledge from it. It does not matter if it is getting heart broken or losing a job, there is always some kind of knowledge that is gained
Systems and structures provide the organizational foundation, but it is the human capital that really provides for the success or failure of any organization. In order for real change to happen, the staff needs to fully embrace the vision and the systems of change. This can only be accomplished if they feel respected, valued and involved in all parts of the change process. It is important to authentically embrace this group and treat them as colleagues in the process. This is the group that is responsible for implementing all systems and providing the public relations for the structure. The
I have always showed hard work and determination in the classroom to learn and better myself. I am constantly trying to work ahead on long term projects so I don’t have to hurry at the end and turn in something I won’t be proud of. During class, I never cause distractions that would disrupt either my or anyone else's learning. In the 11 years I have spent being a student at Allegheny Clarion Valley, in either the elementary or high school, I have only ever got one B on a report card, which that already shows the hard work I put in the classroom. I am always using hard work and determination is to advance and learn in school.
I knew that I was smart and just as capable as my peers. Even though my words could not be expressed through my voice, I found other ways of expression. I expressed my knowledge through my written forms of work. This made the teachers realize that I was more than just a piece of dirt that that could be kicked around by the feet of others. I wanted to be strong, show who I was in my own ways. This I did, and many came to see my true colors.
In that maturity, what I was severely missing was discipline. While my family likes to say I grew out of having ADD, I think I just grew up. I had parents that demanded no bed time, and enforced no curfew, home work was never asked about or checked. Being given adult responsibilities at too young an age, backfired in ways that in reality it took me longer to be an adult. While I mostly blamed my finances for my wanting to, but not attending college, I always knew that had I went any sooner than I did, I would have over sleep for most of it and only be half invested. With my time and my experiences came a maturity, responsibility, and the discipline I knew I needed not only to
...through 8 different psychosocial stages of life. Each step has to be completed in order to have gained knowledge and to be able to be successful in the next stage of development. Researching this topic has taught me that we can’t skip over skills and expect to have success or live happily ever after. I now realize how important learning from my mistakes can be. Childhood becomes the remembered past and adulthood the anticipated future (McAdams, 2001).
It is not easy to understand significance of some things and their impact until you actually undergo them. Ability to effectively communicate and work is one such thing. Before I started business communication class, I was very pessimistic about my communication abilities and my competence in rapidly evolving field of business communication. I was unconfident and nervous on my first day of class. I quickly realized that business communication is course that you will never learn until you energetically engage in various situations of listening and speaking. However, with all wonderful experiences of participation in the class, I personally felt that I gained a real experience without even working in an organization. Interactive nature of the class combined with wonderful teaching of Diana has really helped me to gain immortal knowledge. Through this course, I have refined my communication skills and strengthened my confidence to deliver professional standards and competencies emphasized by potential employers. I would like to share how each module of the course helped me to hone my interpersonal skills:
Some of these things that I read in the article I can directly relate to my own experience. In my high school and junior high we always had learning goals. They would come up with acronyms to help us remember them and make us do project involving them. In high school they were called the ESLERS, what it stood for escapes me now. I guess the school thought it was a good idea to make sure that every classroom had these learning goals posted on the wall. I thought that was always a little silly, but I can’t think of a better way of using them. It never really helped me personally but I could see how it could help others.
Communication is one of the most important factors in our lives. It dictates the relationships formed with the individuals in personal and professional lives. Effective communication provides a foundation for trust and respect to grow. It also helps better understand a person and the context of the conversation. Individuals often believe that their communication skills are much better than what they actually are. Communication appears effortless; however, much of what two people discuss gets misunderstood, thus leading to conflicts and distress. To communicate effectively, one must understand the emotion behind the information being said. Knowing how to communicate effectively can improve relationships one has at home, work and in social affairs. Understanding communication skills such as; listening, non-verbal communication and managing stress can help better the relationships one has with others.
.... I have a plan in order to maintain growth and development in all three types of communication. Primarily and most obviously, I must consciously practice all of the skills and knowledge I have learned. Secondly, not being afraid to ask for, and accept, constructive feedback from others will be a huge contributor to recognizing and following up with needs for improvement in any communication areas. Finally, sharing what skills and knowledge I have gained in this class with others will help to improve and maintain my own communication skills by surrounding myself with an environment filled with people who are also competent communicators. The more people who understand effective communication, the better the understanding between each person in society overall. I hope to follow through with all of these propositions to become an even better communicator in the future.
Growing up, my parents, they always told me keep my grades up, to never put important things aside. They said learn from them, they had my oldest sister at a young age and they were not able to graduate or go back to continue educating them self. They struggle for so long, from buying themselves clothes, to paying the mortgage. Always put school first, work on myself to have the life I want when I am older, my parents said. Saying that, I believe; all the money I am spending, sacrifices I am making, skills I am gaining, and being able to say I fulfilled my goal will be worth it in about seven years for me.
