Recommended: Animal Cosmetic Testing Essay

A lot of people buy cosmetic products being ignorant to the fact that, that one product has killed a lot of animals. How would you like being sprayed with poisonous liquids, taking poisonous eye drops?, or being fed toxic substances? Cosmetic factories have been doing these inhumane things and more to innocent animals for years. According to PETA, every year, millions of animals are poisoned and killed in barbaric tests that were crudely developed as long ago as the 1920s to evaluate the toxicity of consumer products and their ingredients. Rats, mice, guinea pigs, rabbits, and other animals are forced to swallow or inhale massive quantities of a test substance or endure the pain of a chemical eating away at their sensitive eyes and skin––even though the results of animal tests are often unreliable or not applicable to humans. (1) Cosmetic testing isn’t the only type of animal testing but it is one of the most hated ones. This type of testing isn’t required by factories, and their are many alternatives to this. Even though animal testing is wrong in so many ways, there's some good to it. Well it’s not really good but humans benefit from it the most, and that’s testing medicine on animals. Scientist test on animals because their DNA structure is very similar to ours, therefore if something is bad for them it’s most like bad for us as well. So in order to ensure the public safety testing on animals helps a lot. Believe it or not animals benefit from our medicine testing because it also helps us see what diseases they have and what we can do to help them (Should Animals Be Tested On?, par. 5). So while cosmetic testing is completely unnecessary, medical testing is actually helpful. The number of tests being conducted could be reduced if these companies either become anti animal testing or share results with other companies. This idea might seem like a long-shot since sharing information with their competitors seems ridiculous. If you take a step back from looking at each individual company, you’ll see that they are all conducting similar tests with similar products.
