Ethical Integrity While Writing a Dissertation

1470 Words3 Pages

Executing the actual research of a dissertation is a process that can pose many ethical violations such as fabricating data, falsifying data, or plagiarizing (Committee, 2009). In addition, Committee (2009) stated that in order to execute research the research must know how to handle data. For my research, I will be discreet about handling data and open in communication with my participants, by issuing informed consent forms to all of my participants and requiring signatures to continue before any research is conducted. I will have formal and informal question and answer sessions with each individual participant explaining everything my research is intended to cover. Thereafter, I will issue a document that states everything in writing and from there the participants will be allow time to read and ask further questions before proceeding.

After the research is completed and the data has been analyzed, I will begin the process of writing my dissertation manuscript. American Psychological Association (2012) stated that researchers should not reveal any personal information that may identify a participant from a research study. For my dissertation, I will assign each participant a unique identifier; thereafter, the participant will no longer be identified by their name. The unique identifier will be the only document that can be traced back to a name. The document will be locked in safe and I will be the only person with the code. In addition, I will issue a form, which must be signed by the participant stating my methods of destroying participant data after my research is conducted. Currently, my plan is to contact a professional company to shred the unique identifier document.
