Intel was founded by Gordon E. Moore in 1968. Mr. Moore was a physicist and a chemist. He also meets Robert Noyce, again another physicist and co-creator of integrated circuitry. After they both had left Fairchild Semiconductor in the 1980’s. Intel was run by a chemical engineer by the name of Andy Grove. Andy Grove today is considered to be one of the company’s essential businesses and considered strategic leaders. As the year of 1990 came to an end, Intel had become one of the largest and by far the most successful business in the entire world. Intel has gone through many faces and phases. At first Intel was set apart by its ability primarily to create memory chips or SRAM. When Intel was founded, Gordon Moore and Robert Noyce had the idea to name their company Moore Noyce; however when the name was spoken it was heard as “More Noise” which that idea was quickly abandoned and the pursuit of a more suitable name. The name NM Electronics was shortly chosen and used for nearly a year. The company experienced another name change to Integrated Electronics, or INTEL for short. The rights to the name had to be purchased as it was already in use by a fairly well known hotel chain. A client in the early 70’s from Japan wanted to recruit Intel services to design twelve chips for their calculators. Knowing that they did not have the manpower or the resources to complete this job effectively, Ted Hoff agreed to the job just the same to any other challenge. His idea was: “What if we can design one computer chip which could function the same as twelve microchips?”. Hoof’s idea was completely embraced by Moore and Noyce. In a dual core processor, each core handles arriving data strings simultaneously to improve efficiency. Intel is now producing a new type of CPUs known as the Core i series. This series has been out for a while nonetheless, they are still considered relatively young. The Core i3 is the latest budget processor. Even though the Core i3 is the lowest of the series, it’s still a very good processor. The Core i5 is the latest mid-range processor that you can buy from Intel. The i5 has an amazing and noticeable difference of speed, depending what type of software you are using. The i5 comes in two different types of processors; the dual core and the quad core. The Core i7 is the fastest and most expensive yet to come out of Intel.
For over thirty years, since the beginning of the computing age, the Gordon Moore's equation for the number of chip transistors doubling every eighteen months has been true (Leyden). However, this equation by its very nature cannot continue on infinitely. Although the size of the transistor has drastically decreased in the past fifty years, it cannot get too much smaller, therefore a computer cannot get much faster. The limits of transistor are becoming more and more apparent within the processor speed of Intel and AMD silicon chips (Moore's Law). One reason that chip speeds now are slower than possible is because of the internal-clock of the computer. The clock organizes all of the operation processing and the memory speeds so the information ends at the same time or the processor completes its task uniformly. The faster a chip can go (Mhz) requires that this clock tick ever and ever faster. With a 1.0 Ghz chip, the clock ticks a billion times a second (Ball). This becomes wasted energy and the internal clock limits the processor. These two problems in modern computing will lead to the eventual disproving of Moore's Law. But are there any new areas of chip design engineering beside the normal silicon chip. In fact, two such designs that could revolutionize the computer industry are multi-threading (Copeland) and asynchronous chip design (Old Tricks). The modern silicon processor cannot keep up with the demands that are placed on it today. With the limit of transistor size approaching as well the clock speed bottleneck increasing, these two new chip designs could completely scrap the old computer industry and recreate it completely new.
It is evaluated that there are 200,000 defects in this computer, but surely it works! And yet it could run in some of its configurations 100 times faster than a single processor workstation.

The First Generation of Computers The first generation of computers, beginning around the end of World War 2, and continuing until around the year 1957, included computers that used vacuum tubes, drum memories, and programming in machine code. Computers at that time where mammoth machines that did not have the power our present day desktop microcomputers. In 1950, the first real-time, interactive computer was completed by a design team at MIT. The "Whirlwind Computer," as it was called, was a revamped U.S. Navy project for developing an aircraft simulator.
The fist computer, known as the abacus, was made of wood and parallel wires on which beads were strung. Arithmetic operations were performed when the beads were moved along the wire according to “programming” rules that had to be memorized by the user (Soma, 14). The second earliest computer, invented by Blaise Pascal in 1694, was a “digital calculating machine.” Pascal designed this first known digital computer to help his father, who was a tax collector. Pascal’s computer could only add numbers, and they had to be entered by turning dials (Soma, 32). It required a manual process like its ancestor, the abacus. Automation was introduced in the early 1800’s by a mathematics professor named Charles Babbage. He created an automatic calculation machine that was steam powered and stored up to 1000 50-digit numbers. Unlike its two earliest ancestors, Babbage’s invention was able to perform various operations. It relied on cards with holes punched in them, which are called “punch cards.” These cards carried out the programming and storing operations for the machine. Unluckily, Babbage’s creation flopped due to the lack of mechanical precision and the lack of demand for the product (Soma, 46). The machine could not operate efficiently because technology was t adequate to make the machine operate efficiently Computer interest dwindled for many years, and it wasn’t until the mid-1800’s that people became interested in them once again.
So, which processor is the best? It depends on what the computer is being used for. The AMD Athlon processor is the best processor when it comes to 3D games and handles games quite well (Athlon Processor Quotes). The Pentium 3 processor is not quite as good at handling games. From personal experience with a Celeron 566 processor, the Celeron does not do a very good job at handling 3D games and will often freeze during a game, but otherwise is a very good processor. The Pentium 3 is the best processor for handling office applications, but the Celeron and the AMD do a good job as well. In consideration of the price, the Celeron processor is the best priced processor and offers good performance (P3 vs. Celeron 2). The Celeron is about half the price of the Pentium 3 processor (P3 vs Celeron 2).

Thousands of years ago calculations were done using people’s fingers and pebbles that were found just lying around. Technology has transformed so much that today the most complicated computations are done within seconds. Human dependency on computers is increasing everyday. Just think how hard it would be to live a week without a computer. We owe the advancements of computers and other such electronic devices to the intelligence of men of the past.

Apple Inc. humble beginning took place in Steve Jobs’ garage where Jobs, Wozniak and Wayne produced the company’s first computer, the Apple I.
