Do you believe in the American Dream. Have you ever actually sat down to thinks about what you want and what will satisfy you? The name of the book is The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. Mr. Jay Gatsby is a very confused man who is always trying to satisfy others in order to satisfy himself. Gatsby is being placed like a stack of cards. Daisy is a big part of this. Daisy is a very confused and immature lady; she doesn't know what or who she wants in her life. She mentions that she loves Gatsby. A quote of this even is when Daisy says: " Even alone I can't say I never loved Tom,..."(133) One day both Tom and Daisy go over to Gatsby's house. Jordan and Nick are also over at Gatsby's house. While Tom is in the room Daisy said "I love you" to Gatsby. Tom saw Daisy lip that to Gatsby. Tom became a little suspiciousness of what is going on. Daisy did not know that Tom had seen that, nor Gatsby was aware. Evidence is this is where it says "She has told him that she loved him, and Tom Buchanan saw."(119) There is another part in the book where Daisy mentions to Gatsby that she loves him. Gatsby makes a request for Daisy to let Tom know that she never loved him. Gatsby is convinced that she will do this and it will satisfy them both. When Gatsby suggests that Daisy go ahead and do it, Daisy is not as convinced and sure what she is doing, because she has had a relationship with both Gatsby and Tom, In the end Gatsby ends up looking stupid because he thought he had everything planned out right, and Daisy doesn't really know what she feels for them both. Gatsby is as unrealistic as an imaginary friend . Gatsby can not and does not realize that things with Daisy have changed. Even though Nick had men... ... middle of paper ... ...hat big of a deal but he knew that Daisy wanted a wealthy man. "Her voice is full of money."(120) This quote shows that Gatsby is aware of what Daisy is and what she wants. Gatsby went of to war and Daisy felt the need for comfort, so she was sleeping around. A section of the book that mentions this is :"...she was keeping half a dozen dates a day with half a dozen men,..." (151)In the end she found Tom; he was wealthy and was built like he was a safe man because he's buff. She ended up marrying him because being stable and his physical appearance wasn't an issue with him. The only part that Tom didn't have but, he still ended up with Daisy was the affection that she needed. In conclusion Gatsby had never been satisfied in the past with himself and in the end he still wasn't satisfied with anything because things didn't go how he had pictured them.
