Introduction:
Remington is a firearm and ammunition manufacturing company. Remington is one America’s largest firearm seller. They have fulfilled military contracts for foreign countries, and have armed the US military for 150 years. It is primarily stationed in Madison, North Carolina, and provides goods/services for private and public sale. Remington was created in 1816, and since then they have fulfilled many military contracts for the United States as well as for 55 foreign countries. It is currently one of the largest firearm producers in the world, and is renowned for its upmost quality. Due to Remington’s patriotic oriented business format, all of its firearms and ammunition is created in the United States.
Brief history of Remington:
Remington was founded in 1816 by Eliphalet Remington II in Ilion Gulch, New York. Eliphalet Remington II had created the first Remington rifle himself. Once Eliphalet Remington II’s rifle was unveiled to the public, immediately buy orders came in to produce more rifles.
Remington quickly grew and was seen as a leading firearm which then expanded its firearm goods by creating the first hammerless auto-loading shotgun, as well as many their own repeating firearms. As the array of firearms created by Remington grew, more interest was put into the company, and therefore in 1865 it was formed into a stock company.
Quickly, Union Metallic Cartridge Company of Bridgeport, Conn, which was another firearm oriented business merged with Remington, froming Remington U.M.C.

The specific products which Remington makes are based on which brand is creating them. To help explain the array of products manufactured by Remington, firstly one must understand what each of Remington brands are responsible for.
Each of Remington brands are actually individual companies all acting as a subsidiaries to Remington.
Since Remington is in a multitude of markets, it does not do it all under one main brand. The corporation is split up into lesser divisions whom all focus on their specific market.

A popular weapon used by both sides was the rifle. Rifles were invented before the Civil War and were greatly used in the War of 1812. However, more types were built and a larger amount was used during the Civil War. Rifles added a spin to bullets for a greater accuracy at longer ranges. Using this weapon, soldiers could fire 400 yards away, as opposed to the average 80 yards (Robertson 50). Rifles were the fastest and hardest weapon of the time. Rifles allowed their bullets to be shot harder and faster towards its target. New inventions, used by the Union more than the Confederate, included Parrott rifles. They were composed of iron. Robert Parker Parrott, an American soldier and inventor, created these weapons, hence the name Parrott rifles. Despite its name, the Parrott rifle was actually a cannon. Its size ranged from 10 to 300 pounders. It was not favored by most because it was considered unsafe (“Civil War Artillery”). Samuel Colt faced many challenges in his early life, but he was able to overcome them and be the successful businessman that he was. Throughout his life Samuel Colt did many things to advance life in America, such as developing new guns and business techniques. Colt was the first of many to develop a fully functioning revolver know as the Colt single action army. Colt’s manufacturing techniques helped him become the leader in gun manufacturing. Today Colt’s company is still at work and has become the leader in gun advancements.
Immediately, he was faced with making 10,000 muskets in a span of two years for the United States. This proved to be a challenge for Whitney as this task took him upwards of 10 years instead of the original two. He created the idea of interchangeable parts, which changed the way muskets were built. The war with France looked promising in the near future, so Whitney must be able to produce these muskets in time, and had a lot of pressure on him.(100) Although Whitney mainly took this contract from the government to make money, he was satisfied with helping out his government in any way possible. The NRA was created in 1871, by Col. William C. Church and Gen. George Wingate, after being concerned with their troops’ marksmanship. (A Brief History of the NRA). The main goal of the group at the time would be to “promote and encourage rifle shooting on a scientific basis” as stated in a column written by Church. After being granted a charter by New York State in 1871, they were also given financial help from New York State to create a practice ground. It was located in Long Island, and was turned into a rifle range. New York State changed political hands and the NRA was faced with political opposition in the state. The association was forced to leave New York and move their new range to New Jersey in 1892 as stated on the NRA home page.

The first guns used in America were a simple machine where the person did most of the work. The user measured and put the powder down the barrel of the gun. Next some shotgun pellets were put in the same way. This was then all compacted and the gun was ready to fire. This reloading took over a minute before each shot could be fired and the guns weren't very accurate by today's standards. If too much powder was used then the gun could explode or if the powder were wet then the gun wouldn't fire. One of inventions during the Revolutionary War was a way to reload faster. The powder was already pre-measured and kept in little sacks. This made reloading faster because the user no longer had to measure the powder between each reloading. These guns were crude but in that day was a powerful modern invention that was considered very useful. The American Revolution was a political war to obtain what the people of that era wanted. By today's standards the destruction of gun was minimal so war was used to obtain political objectives.
