In this mentorship I continue getting new experiences in each day. Providence Mount St. Vincent, TCU is an open door for new learning opportunity. I used to work for Providence Mount St Vincent as a nursing assistant about three years ago, back then TCU wasn’t there. PMSV’s MISSION: As people of Providence, we reveal God’s love for all, especially the poor and vulnerable, through our compassionate service; CORE VALUES: Respect, compassion, justice, excellence and stewardship; VISION: Together, as people of Providence, we answer the call of every person we serve: know me; care for me; ease my way. This principle motivated and structured me to be a better caring, passionate, treat resident as individual and respect residents wishes. In this mentorship I got lucky because I am able to find a nurse that willing to mentor me in TCU. According to the nursing educator he told me that “you are the first nursing student allowed on the TCU”. That made me very proud and prepared to do my best.
In TCU (Transitional Care Unit) mostly admitted patient who discharged right from hospitals with needs of maximum rehabilitation for recover. In TCU nurse to patient is maximum 1:8 ratio, which it gives more time and assessment time than long-term unit 1:20. Unless there are a very hard to find an RN all nurses on TCU are RN’s.
On my first day in TCU I focused on trying to adjusted and found where the equipment placed and how it worked like IV machine, and where to find medications, treatment supplies, and scavenger hunting, I also give care for three patient assessment and medication administration. ...o see in a better ways and how to manage pain faster and with successful result, which includes patient satisfaction and quality care. I mention and discus some of pain questioners with nursing assistance how they can address pain and ask pain level 0/10/ and more effective customer service. This is a good team and team leader role. I learn how to respond and to be open to every ones questions.
I was able to change central line sterile dressing and hung IV normal saline my preceptor gave me a good complement. In lab we practice IV and helped me to perform with confidence. I helped with monthly recapping.
As a nurse we always have to use critical thinking, nursing judgment and prioritization. I am continuing using these skills. Finally, this is my midterm mentorship I am continuing learning and open myself to gain new experience and to be a successful nurse.
