Does Participation in Sports Have a More Positive or Negative Impact on Young Children?
In the article “Youth Sport: Positive and Negative Impact on Young Athletes” by Donna Merkel suggest that children have to be at least 6 years of age before participating in a sport. She also claims that parents and coaches have to work together to change youth sports to decrease the negative effects and instead be able to get a positive result in children who participate in a sport.
This is a credible article because of the author’s credentials. She earned her M.S and is a certified sports specialist. Her interest are sports medicine and psychology (“Donna Merkel”). Bruner has a Ph.D. from the University of Saskatchewan. His areas of specialization are youth sports and physical activity. This makes Bruner credible because he has a degree proving he has background information by doing research on group dynamics, physical activity and youth development in sport (Nipissing University).
