Theory B: The rational choice theory better explains the behavior of the offender; in this case, youth gang members who commit these delinquent behaviors. This theory is based off of the decision making processes individuals go through in order to self-fulfill a particular need or want that benefits or satisfies them in the end. These are choices that individuals are making on their own free will, most likely based off of what they have been socialized around, whether by peers or parents or environmentally. To begin, youths make their own choice of becoming affiliated with gangs in the first place. Families are constantly suffering the loss of their children at an age too young, which now seems to be a reoccurring theme. The area in which these delinquent activities are happening need to be identified and solutions should be put into effect immediately to assist in preventing or deterring the youth gang involvement around these larger cities and suburban counties. People should be able to feel safe in their own neighborhoods but in order to do so; the community itself needs to work in cooperation with police and other organizations to help situate the issue. The police cannot work alone in preventing youth gang membership and involvement with delinquent peers, this is another important task that needs to be brought on by citizens of the community and the families of those youth’s in a joint effort to deter youth gang involvement. America is already the number one country for the highest incarceration rate and the highest country for gun violence and this outbreak in youth gang membership does not need to top this list as well. The statistics will only continue to increase if America continues to become numb to the delinquent activities, therefore they will only stand by and watch as more and more youths become corrupted into this …show more content…

however, many studies have looked at ways in which why people turn to gangs and why they commit delinquent activities. Therefore, a further examination in how gang membership and being involved with juvenile delinquents is connected to delinquent behavior is explored. Children learn early on right from wrong and they are taught this content from their parents. In addition research have shown the relationship gang members and peers have on the youths of our society. These influences are not always good, in fact results show that when youth joins a gang and become a member they end up committing more delinquent behavior then they did before their involvement. In similar results claims the same to be true for affiliation with delinquent peers. As a society we must be aware of the needs of our youth or more and more youths will choose the friends wrong friends to hang around as well as the wrong group to associate
