world war II posters use fear, association, name- calling, celebrities, plain-folk and bandwagon techniques to spread their information with the purpose of supporting the war effort. they spoke to different audiences for several purposes using these techniques and tools.

Name calling is the most basic form of propaganda. Simply insulting a group's intelligence or policies is quickly seen as a ''smear campaign''. The majority of name calling is done in a more subtle fashion where the target is compared to ideas or values that the audience does not support.

Anyone who has seen or heard a commercial knows the power of The Testimonial Device, the fourth technique identified.One poster features a female factory worker with her arms raised and is designed to convince women to work in factories. The woman’s triumphant pose with raised arms helps to associate women working in factories with a victory for Great Britain. It is used to make us believe that one person's experience, either good or bad, could be our own if we do the same as them. Outside of product advertisement, the Testimonial Device can be used in a negative way. A politician might run a campaign in which he describes how a certain group of people did not like of his opponent's policies, and therefore his audience now will not like it either. …show more content…
